External Claddings for Enscape Material Library

So far there isn’t a category for “External Claddings” in the material library.

Considering that the bulk of external surfaces of a building falls under this category I’m surprised that this hasn’t yet been addressed. There is a section for bricks but that’s about the extent of it.

It’s nice to have a lot of the fancy materials that already exist but, could we focus on the everyday materials as a priority, please?

The category of external claddings could have sub-headings as suggested below.

Wall Claddings

  • Masonry
  • Lightweight
  • Metal
  • Stone
  • Concrete
  • Slate
  • Metal
  • Hatched

Roof Claddings

  • Concrete
  • Slate
  • Metal
  • Hatched

The above may interfere with the current hierarchical structure but perhaps we could look at this as well e.g. a category list as you currently have it and an alternative heading “material by use” which would require the Enscape materials to be searchable by tags and not just by name.

Currently, when you type in flooring, the result is “nil”, to me it should show up all of the materials suitable for flooring e.g. tiles, timber etc.

Cladding isn’t a term regularly used in Europe, I certainly would never describe brick (masonry) as cladding. Cladding implies it’s just for decoration and serves no purpose.

Thanks Paul, I’m not from Europe so I don’t know what your local term might be.

We fix brickwork to the outside of a wall frame, its purpose is for decoration, weather protection etc so yes, in that case, you would consider it a cladding as it doesn’t perform as a structural component of the building.

But this is not the point of my post.

^ The majority of brick masonry in America is all a veneer. Again that’s not the point.

your best bet is to move to a more advanced material library like adobe substance. The Enscape library seems to tackle the more schematic design requirements. It might change in the future but not much has changed in the year since its been added to the program. .

Its just an idea, not an issue/error.

I’m just trying to get a conversation going about the lack of everyday building materials such as cladding or sidings etc and simplifying where they would belong.

As its an idea and not an issue, I might have submitted this to the wrong forum.

Here I am in 2026 with the same issue, the material library has made no significant improvements, whilst the entourage libraries keep growing.

I too am after CLADDING options exactly as you described.

I’ve created my own library over time from the Revit material libraries, but would have expected a bit more from Enscape by now. They have some very niche materials in the library but an absence of the most typical exterior materials used by US / Can /Aus / NZ
