Hello!
Here is a couple renderings in progress for an upcoming project. Any feedback would be helpful! Thank you!
Hey, quick question - Is the board and batten siding a material with bump or is it actual geometry? I’ve been searching forever to find a material and can’t find one. Only have a so/so one I’ve created myself.
This is me actually placing each and every batten on the building!! Which can be pretty tedious, but looks way better in the end.
I have to been searching for both board & batten AND horizontal lap siding… The lap siding I found doesn’t appear very well.
It’s a beautiful render, I wouldn’t critique it.
It’s puzzling that Enscape is missing some basic architectural materials in the default library. Regarding board & batten, I’ve cobbled together my own basic version using some google image results and Materialize. Gets me by until I find the need to hand model alllll the geometry, which is a pain if something changes.
Horizontal siding, I use “siding shutters” from Poliigon, but it’s perfectly seamless, and missing where cuts in the board lengths would normally be and any nail indents, etc. From far away like this, it probably wouldn’t matter.
There are plugins for board and batten (1001 bit tools comes to mind) and I believe a dynamic component in The sketchup warehouse as well.
Haven’t used that plugin in a while. I’ll give it another look. I’m usually only inclined to use full geometry and much higher LOD at the very final stages (revisions are a time suck) and if the client requires that high of detail. 9/10 times a material will do.
Vali Architects also has their Instant Cladding plugin, but I’m not a fan of their subscription pricing model.
I have instant cladding. I use it for stone walls/floors. Its worth the time saving and creates a realistic enough effect for my archviz. The more i use sketchup, the more i learn to love the plugins XD
