Hi
I have one editable poly object. It’s sphere inside box. I use this object as gizmo for VRayEnvFog with some “gizmo falloff radius”.
But “gizmo falloff radius” only work for box. There is no soft edges for sphere inside box.
Why this happens? And how I can get soft edges around sphere (inside box)? Also I want to control separately inner and outer edge softness. Is this possible?
p.s. Here is render of my problem. 3ds Max 2014 SP5 + VRay_adv_32002_max2014_x64_25860
Hi,
There is something buggy here - “gizmo falloff radius” is not working until “per gizmo fadeout enable” is unchecked, so please see if “per gizmo fadeout enable” is unchecked when you select your gizmo.
Yes, I know it! And it doesn’t work in both cases.
I create box and sphere. Then I convert box to editable poly and attach sphere to box.
What effect are you trying to achieve ? A sphere shaped hole in the box ?
yes, I want fog disappear in one place to form an empty sphere inside whole volume of fog and than it all came back (sphere must be animated to achieve smooth disappearing).
By attaching a geometry .. you are just attaching it
You are placing one volume into another, you can’t expect 3ds max to know you want to create a hole
Try using Boolean operations (Compound Objects).
or just flip the faces of the sphere so they face inwards.. should do the same.
or that ![]()
no, it is not the same.
That’s it! Thank you!
assuming the sphere is completely inside the box (ie not intersecting the sides of the box) , then flipping the faces of the internal sphere should give exactly the same result as booleaning one from the other
Yes, u r right! You will not believe me of course but I did it before. And it start work only after you mention this! ![]()
