I get a lot of freezes and crashes with GPU preview when there are a lot of cells involved or when I open 2 max sessions with both phoenixFD gpu preview in them. the computer will freeze completely or sometimes the screen becomes black and max crashes.
I have a Geforce GTX 1080 zotac amp extreme. win 7 x64
Finally it is not due to the GPU memory being full. I just had a crash with a GPU preview and then I opened the scene back and went to the same frame and same resolution and I saw there was only 3 Gb out of 8 being used.
Wow, 4 years later Can you give us more info on the exact steps we can use to make it blow up here as well, so we can fix it? Also, which Exact Phoenix version for you use, which 3ds Max, which viewport (Nitrous 9, or 11, or opengl, etc)?
Figured I’d add to this thread instead of starting a new one since the issue is the same. Did you ever determine what could cause this? I’m on 3ds2019, PFD3.x, Win7, Nitr11, 4GB vid card. All I have to do is try to preview a detailed explosion/smoke sim in the viewport (or can happen while simming if preview detail is set super low).
I didn’t determine anything more because there was no answer in the thread sadly… However, a ton of preview code has changes since then, but we also don’t develop phx 3 for a couple years. Can you grab a Phoenix 4 trial and see if the issue is still there? You can also go through the changelogs we have on Chaos Docs and check the preview changes - some of them might be related.
Thx Svetlin. Do you show me as registered up to PFD4.x? I can’t find any record data on it, except that it is in my downloads section, so I’m a bit perplexed.
Ah, sorry, say again? You should have a mail from trial registration with a link to the downloads, check your spam or trash email folders in case it didn’t arrive.
