I’m playing around with Gaussian Splats, but I don’t understand how to correct the exposure of the splats.
My Scene:
-Gaussian Splats
-HDRI (no color correction)
-Camera (Exposure set to 0)
With this setup I get the expected result. But when I change it a bit to get a more realistic setup that I need for my work, I can’t get the expected result anymore.
-Gaussian Splats
-HDRI (Exposure correction to +4.5 in Corona Color Correct to get a realistic bright background similar in brightness to Corona Sky)
Camera (Exposure to -4.5, which is a realistic number for an exterior shot in sunlight)
In my expectation I would also have to adjust the linear intensity of the Gaussian Splats to compensate the -4.5 Exposure of the camera. Without correction, I would expect it to render very dark, as a HDRI would be without correction. But this is not the case, it renders in the exact same brightness… So then I can check under “Affect by postprocessing” the setting “Exposure” which makes the splats darker. That is what I expect, since the Exposure of the Camera is set to -4.5. Now I want to correct the linear intensity of the splats. For a texture I would use Corona Color Correct node and change the linear Intensity to 4.5 or any other number I want, so that it matches the brightness of the scene. But the Intensity for Gaussian Splats works differently, I can’t get the same look and brightness. How is this supposed to work?
What I want is, that the splats behave exactly the same as a texture and that I can control it like in Corona Color Correct node. If I set the intensity of the splats to 4.5 it is still way to dark. The formula that brings me closer to the right brightness is to multiply it by 4, like 4.5 × 4 = 18. But this is not very intuitive, since the camera is only set to -4.5…
