Hello - I’m looking for some tips for this image. I have a glass material that isn’t too bad but I can’t get any reflections in the glass. Really all I want to do is add a bitmap of a similar image to the background and have it reflected a bit to break of the blackness of the windows. I have tried to add a bitmap to the reflect slot and put at 100 without any result. Also I would like to add tire tracks and muddy up the driveway a bit. Any other suggestions are welcome on lighting or material tips as well. Thanks a lot for any input. Regards Peter.
Flino - Gave that a try but nothing worked?? I have the bitmap in the reflection slot and at 100%. Flipped the normals and checked display on back. Not sure what else I can do?? Any one else have suggestions?
dont use a bitmap in the reflection slot. unlike standard material. vray material uses bitmaps for reflection strength. have your bitmap in vrays override reflection/refraction slot in the environment area (make sure its spherical mapped) then try to render that
well I don´t know how you build your glass material. But if you did
it the “normal” way (vray mat/ fresnel reflections) I would add the following.
Assign the environment image of your scene to the “environment slot”
of you glass material and increase the RGB multiplier in the “output”
rollout. Like this you can very well control the amount of reflection
on your windows.
The glass looks quite dark.. If you want to look inside the room you should
check the “affect shadow” option in the vray mat.
Tom - Yes they have a thickness. I modeled in AutoCAD they are 1/4" thick. Empty room behind but if you look at daytime pictures of windows they actually show up pretty much black unless there is a very bright light inside or curtains reflecting outside light. I’m just missing the reflection.
hi
i had the same problem with some windows in a past project.
my suggestion:
use the vray material and uncheck the fresnel effect option, instead use a low level of reflection (a dark color). you should also override the environment reflection in the scene inside the render settings window with a cloudy sky.
this may give you a highly reflective material with transparency.
Sorry - Haven’t had a chance to get back to that yet. Thanks for all the suggestions and I will give them a try and get back to you with the results. Thanks again.
minimum - I did what you said and it seems to work with the reflection now I’m wondering how to adjust the amount of transparency indpendant of reflection? Or can you do that?
Never mind I figured it out. I’m not sure why it didn’t work before but I am getting it to work fine now adjusting the refraction colour.
Now the only issue I am having is that when I have a bitmap in the Environment area, Override MAX’s is checked, and I put my sky in the reflection slot - It gives me striped reflections in my glass. It looks like the UVW is really screwed up and is giving me thin reflections of my sky on about a 45 degree angle across my glass.
Is there a way to have like a skydome with Vray? I would like to use a spherical map and have it show up as a background and have that reflected in my glass. With fakiosity I used to map this image onto a dome over my model but that doesn’t seem to work with Vray as it blocks skylight??
Anyones suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
