how to do Vray opacity???

I try to make a opacity with Vray material but i can’t.

What version of 3dsmax and V-Ray are you using?

mmmmm …yes good point ..looks old..

You need to check affect alpha.

(doesn’t look like a very old version to me, it’s at least the 1.09.03h build)

Thought the alpha issue was fixed in the latest build?

Alpha channel support for refraction was added in the h build, and hasn’t changed since.

Yes I checked affect alpha but I can’t see any diferents:

The problem is not the affect alpha, I think that it is a problem of the Fog Multiplier in Vray material.

I looked at the scene. The problem is not the box material, it works if you check affect alpha, but the matte object below the box makes it show up as white anyway. Matte objects are visible through refractions.

Anyone have a workaround suggestion?

ah i got it (what is the purpose)
If you set your plane not to be visible for reflection/refraction situation will change, however the shadow on it will be a strange shaped, because the invisible part of the original from -as seen from the camera- will cut out the shadow.
I think this cannot be solved by this way.

I need to animate opacity map. No way to cut object.

i think use standard material. I dont find solution for this, maybe some plug could do it.

You could animate a slice modifier if your geometry is this simple. If the geometry is more complex use the Cebas ScalpelMax plugin: http://www.cebas.com/products/products.asp?UD=10-7888-33-788&PID=6

First i need a gradient opacity.
Second I have a scene with 2 000 000 polygons and all object must be applay to this opacity no way to use Cebas ScalpelMax. I think that i will use a standart material because I can’t find any other good decision. Speed is 2 times slower but final result is beter.

May be this is a good point to fix this in next version.
