Images in Enscape look worse than in Sketchup!

Hello,

I’m new to Enscape having got some tuition in my interior design course and have just starting using it and was so shocked to see how terrible the renders looks for me. I prefer the Sketchup look! So I’m curious, should I be adding all the textures in Enscape rather than Sketchup? Are there any shapes I should be avoiding in Sketchup? For example I have a headboard (see pics) made up of curved (what will be upholstered) vertical pieces and it’s totally fuzzy in Enscape! The definition from the pillows have been lost. Many of the items have been imported in from 3D warehouse - does this make it worse in Enscape?

Any help would be gratefully received - after watching many Youtube videos and playing around with the settings, it’s no better. Some of the videos I’ve watched show incredibly photo-realistic renders, so if there is something fundamental I’ve missed please can someone let me know as I’m completely deflated. Any help on getting better light into a particular corner (my shower enclosure room in the pics) would be gratefully received.

Thank you so much from this frustrated novice.

Hi,
Just some quick pointers.

It doesn’t look like any of your materials have reflective properties. In sketch up you can set this using the enscape material properties button (checkered sphere icon). If you use the slider you can vary this for each material.

If you use the enscape materials these come with some preset values. These can be imported using the paint swatch icon.

Some of the fuzziness is because you are in live view. If you export a render (shift + F11) some of this will clean up.

I see you have no lid on the bathroom so the sun is lighting the space. Better to add a ceiling and a window and use a combination of natural and artificial lighting.

Hope this helps.

^this + You’re almost certainly somewhat bias toward 'ketchup’s viewport’s outlines (which can be readily added in Enscape’s view settings, if that’s a style you’d prefer)

Thanks so much Steve, this has been so useful as I just didn’t know where to start, thinking it would magically look a lot better. I’ve been playing around and things are looking better. I also had to change some of my materials in Sketchup as they didn’t come across well at all in Enscape.

I keep the roof off in Sketchup as I find it easier to navigate without ending up in a wall!

Thanks again for your help. Still a long way to go to make anything look even remotely photo realistic but I’m on the way. Looking at some of the You Tube vidoes on line and their renders look exactly like a photo. Wonder how long this would take!

Thanks again!

Thanks Snowy, I will check out more about Viewport outlines. Thanks for the tip!
