Hey guys,
my friend bought 2 of these processors.
He tells me windows has a limitation of 64 threads. So if I were to buy these same processors, to be used with Maya and Max Vray. Is there no way to take full advantage of them?

Windows 7 and up can handle more than 64 cores, if the software is written to take advantage of them. V-Ray is written in such a way, and starting from V-Ray 3.40 should be able to use more than 64 cores automatically.
Best regrds,

Oh perfect! I shall buy them processors. Thank you Vlado!
But as for him, I think their studio hasn’t upgraded. If the version is lower then 3.4, it doesn’t take advantage automatically, does that mean there is a work around to tell Vray to use them?
In V-Ray 3.30, there is an environment variable that has to be set: VRAY_USE_THREAD_AFFINITY=1
Older V-Ray versions than V-Ray 3.30 do not support more than 64 threads at all.

Vlado
We are about to buy a couple of 2696 V4
You said win 7 will work? I ratter stay on win 7 than go on win 10 although I do have a workstation on win 10 that works great.
Cheers
Yes, Windows 7 should work fine. From Microsoft’s website:> The 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and later versions of Windows support more than 64 logical processors on a single computer. This functionality is not available on 32-bit versions of Windows.

Vlado
Great thanks!
Hey guys, I have the machine at the moment. We are using maya 2016 and vray 3.4.20 and when I hit render, it only renders with half the cores.
Did you read this http://area.autodesk.com/blogs/max-station/n268-how-many-cores-does-3ds-max-support?\_ga=1.13617140.272055554.1453992193
I know your using Maya but maybe the following from philippe.luneau
“To solve your problem: Update your BIOS settings and your Bios must have a parameter of type “Numa Group Size Optimization” that it must switch to “Flat” and that should solve your problem.”
