Created much in the same way as I did this one, http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3840
just wanted to do something a bit warmer.
Still not sure about the chair at the left and the throw on the main couch.
But when I am doing it for fun I take my time so I will get around to fixing
it all up.
I did get an odd message and I believe it is caused by the Ficus tree at the
left.
Warning: Too many transparent levels at object Ceiling
The tree is from XFrog which uses alpha’s for transparency for the leaves.
Not sure, any ideas? The tree is the only object with transparency. The
odd thing to me is the ceiling is just flat white. So why would the error be
related to the Ceiling object? Also just above and to the right of the
window there is a wedge of hot speckles. I am assuming this is an error
caused by whatever is going on with the transparency error as the specs
and the errors did not occure until I added the tree.
Nope, just a small VRay light cranked up and an attenuated omni
that exludes the bowl and light bulb.
Was having a ton of trouble with that bowl, tried self illuminating
and all kinds of whacky stuff but ended up with a VRay material
thats transparent with a tight noise for bump to give it the frosted look.
Thanks guys, makes me want to do another one.
These past two have taken alot out of me. Having to stay late and do it
on my own time. Only light and modeling studies for myself.
Might lay off for a night or two to catch up on some sleep.
I think next will be southwestern, not sure yet. Need to make more
furniture and do-dads.
couple questions:
what’s your general lighting setup?? do you have a vray light in the window, or inside??..bringing light to the back of the room is what I always have trouble with…how did you set it up?
I like the highlights on the different objects…makes them pop out…
the chair is the only thing that may need revising: the cushin appears rather flat.
second, did you make those plans, I mean besides the small tree to the left…are they 3d or 2d…
also could you post your rendering settings…

Well its nothing but skylight No sun (turned it off to avoid the
distracting orange spot on the floor), no extra lights (except the lamp)
and no skylight portals.
Skylight is slightly blue @7.0 and using HSV color mapping Dark:4.0 and
light:1.0 thats about it.
Now the room itself if actually the opposite wall of the image linked at
the top so the layout is something like this.
Two windows at the left 30"x72" one opening to a 12’x12’ room at the right
with large openings on each wall (this helps some light come in but
only after bouncing a bit) and then the two small high windows behind
the camera. (either side of the fireplace in the other image)
have a look at the other one you will see, there is a plan view screen cap
of the room there too. http://www.chaoticdimension.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3840

The chair is unfinished, I agree that it is a bit flat, not done with it yet.
Need to detail it out or just replace it with another object such as a chest
which was another idea. I’ll get something done there.
and thanks, just hope I can inspire the way others here inspired me.
GoncaloP, RErender, Suurland - there are too many to list, you guys know
who you are.

Sorry, missed one-
The plants/trees are 3d. The Ficus tree is from XFrog and the philodendron
on the table and climbing the stump in the pot I modeled some time ago.
Still work ok but need to get back into XFrog so I can have a bit more
variety.
Sorry forgot the other VRay light - but I deleted it, so still skylight only.
There is glossy reflections on pretty much everthing at some level.
It was the only way I could pull some of it off. Hope it is not too much.
RErender - clip maps? I am in kind of a stupor right now.
I think a bit much on the leather couch and chair…but it’s probably my own personal preference
anyway, overall I think it enhances the image…thanks for the quick responses.
eh.. its preference, the last one someone said there was not enough
The grainy feel is a combo of the glossy and bump, might try one without
or reduce it quite a bit to see what it is like.
sounds like a lot of mixing to me…it looks good, that’s what matters!!
also, did you do anything in post?? say grain, contrast balancing?
I noticed that your “darker” for the color mapping is really high “4”…was it too dark in the shadows otherwise?..just courious..cause when I bump that up it tends to start to “flaten”/grey out the whole image, while yours is nice and contrasty…
sorry to pest you w/ all this questions…just courious i guess
No problem.
I am in mortal combat with an exterior right now so I am up.
All straight out of VRay- no post.
I wondered often about the grain in many images I had seen. I suppose
many were altered in post but I found if you use a little bump here and
there it seems to actually give the effect of graininess (when it is small
of course). Like the wall, I originally wanted to do a textured wall and
when I did a test render I decided to leave it alone and not scale the
bump up. Eh what can you do?
One thing to remember is the shape of the room has alot to do with
how you have to light it (you probably already know this), under the same
conditions (settings and lights at least) another room probably would not
work so well unless it was very similar in shape and/or had rougly the
same opportunities for light to enter the space.
Bah, now I have to model a new room to try some other stuff.
