I have been having major issues with IPR for the last week. I was beginning to think it was my machine playing up since i have sent the 3ds max dump files to chaos regarding the issues im having and they cant replicate them.
The scene im working on hasa clean reset file - its a few walls unwrapped with a displaced stone texture - using IPR was great as i could have immediate feedback on my tweaks but every so often it would just crash on me.
Anyone wants to test to see - make a simple wall - add a fairly detailed stone texture (im using an arroway one) then try adjusting the output colour map in the displaced channel with IPR running. I just get a straight Max close.
I am now using vray RT in cpu mode and everything i was trying to do works absolutely fine and not one crash.
Are others having any issues with IPR running and crashes
Does the issue occurs with older version of V-Ray? Have you tried resetting 3dsMax to default settings by deleting the ENU folder located “C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2017 - 64bit\ENU”?
I was using 3.6.01 while i had the issues. I have since updated to 3.6.02 and i did have similar issues. It isnt all the time, you can listerally have a good run for a few hours then all of a sudden you try something and it crashes.
Going to keep testing and see if i still get crashes. I was always launching IPR through VFB.
Update - i have just had this error while running IPR from VFB.
UNHANDLED EXCEPTION : calling frameEnd on render instances Last marker is at /src/globillmap.cpp.line 2357 : GlobIllumMap : buildLightMap0 (5)
All i did wasapply a Forest gravel from their library to a simple piece of geometry.
Any idea what the error is as ive had this before, i usually just restart and it works ok. Errors / crashes are very intermittent
I am very new to this. but I have been testing IPR for the last couple of days, playing with the lighting, trying out various camera angles, then I tried adding a forest object and crash, Max just closed without error… Could it have something to do with the fact that when you update something like a light or move the camera, IPR has to refresh everything, load all the textures objects etc etc. I’m sure this must be a memory thing, especially if you are adding new geometry… It’s insanely difficult to nail this one down and as you pointed out, you can go for hours in one session and then try it again later and it falls over in 10 minutes. It’s a very useful feature and in my situation preferable to RT, so would be great to see it made a lot more stable in the future. I am using Vray 3.60.02
I have sent the scene file over on ftp . I gave up trying to see what was going on - i am adjusting forest grass materials and IPR just shuts Max down. 5th time in 15 mins.
Hi.Scene sent via FTP. Called Lode_Architects_Scene
I have also taken the grass geometry into a brand new scene so nothing else there and still crashes on tweaking settings in forest
