light cache building for hours now

left a scene to render for about 3 hours and came back and light cache was stil building, tried to cancel and render again but same, anyone else having this issue with the newest version?

Not me, but BR+BF is my current favorites. I have had LC hang, but not recently.

AHH, was just a simple thing as converting the scene twice with vray scene converter, first time seems it didnt work, closed the scene reopened and converted again and now it works ok

Glad to hear the issue disappeared but keep us posted in case it happens again.

will do, seems it may have been some blend material from the standard material

Hello,

Talking about standard 3dsmax Blend material, is it supposed to be handled / converted by VRay Scene Converter or not ? just to know if it’s a potential bug here or not

Thanks.

it seems to have converted it on the second try i did of the scene after converting once, saving then re opening the scene and converting again, idk why or how but it worked that way.

I had to troubleshoot a friend’s scene last week. Once I hid a certain batch of proxied trees LC just zipped along. Tried override materials and different opacity options in the materials which didn’t work so I believe it was either a bad proxy, or LC had difficulty with so many trees bunched very tightly together. Even when they were off camera it made LC hang.

Yes, V-Ray scene converter will convert the Blend material to VRayBlendMtl.

If you send us the scene we will have a look at it.

This could be an issue, indeed, or not, depending on what the dyn mem limit was set to.
Back in the days of little ram, that was the precise behaviour to expect, with a limited dyn mem pool.

We’re using machines w/ 64gb of mem and I set the memory to 0…usually. Perhaps I overlooked it this time…

One quick question: is there a reason LC doesn’t use 100% cpu even with adequate memory available?

It depends on your scene; if V-Ray needs to load textures or calculate displacement on the fly, then the light cache might not manage to fully load all cores; however once all these things are in memory, it should proceed at full speed.

Vlado

Got it. Thanks
