Mapping curves with materials

Hi there!

I’m having a problem sorting this out, I’ve looked around the forums and used the search engine but still I can’t find the solution to it.

When you have a curved surface in Sketchup it’s truely a sequence of surfaces that “look” like a curve. When I apply a material based on an image I always get the same result, it doesn’t wrap around this “apparent” curve surface, it just shows the plane surfaces (hidden geometry) that build the curve.

I’m attaching an image and hopeing someone can guide me through this…

PD: The image from which I created the Material isn’t small, so it isn’t a tile issue… just in case you’re thinking it isn’t scaled properly.

Re: Mapping curves with materials

i’m no expert in sketchup, but in those situations i use ‘projected’ material.
there few ways to do that.
here is one: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=HHsRRLCAOm8
hope it helps.

Re: Mapping curves with materials

you might want to download the free UV tool ruby plugin written by WHat. go to sketchucation.com and download it from the ruby section. just have to look at it there though.

Re: Mapping curves with materials

Hi again!

40th resolved the issue. The projection method worked like a charm.
I’m adding the images so you can see the results:

PD. if you’re having the same problem mapping curves take a look at the YouTube video 40th mentioned…
