When working on a client’s machine I noticed that in Blender 5.2 and 5.1 with the vray 7.40
the matte surface option breaks when multiple frames are being rendered.
On the first frame the shadow catcher will work as expected but any following frame it’ll render as a normal object. Basically disabling the matter surface option.
Is the matte object that breaks also animated?
When I noticed the issue I only had the camera animated and an object that was casting a shadow on the matte object. But it also happens when nothing is animated and just an animation is being rendered.
Basically what I did after noticing the issue. Just to make sure there wasn’t anything wrong in the scene I was working with. I opened a new scene.
Plane as the ground with matte surface option on.
Alpha -1
Shadows and Affect Alpha ticked.
Sphere above the plane with dome or rect light shining on it.
In the world setting I gave the background a bright color. (red for example)
Created a camera. Set output to animation, output path etc.
And then rendered animation.
First frame the matte surface works. Once the next frame starts it’s not working anymore.
Okay I see, we had a regression with object properties that we noticed right after the release. Will pick the fix for it and it will be available in the stable builds next week.
Looking forward to the fix then! Thanks for letting me know.
The fix is available here: Chaos
Thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated!
Just wanna report that the issue is indeed fixed in the new build.
