Maya BerconNoise to bump issues

I’m working with data that was translated from CAD that usually has overlapping UVs. I’m wanting to add subtle texture to match some MoldTech textures and I’m using VrayBerconNoise. I had hoped to also use the bump2golssiness, but that doesn’t work with GPU? I can’t remember why I had abandoned that.

I had noticed that when I connect the noise to a vray material’s bump slot, the bump amount doesn’t work. If I remember correctly, setting it to zero does work, but then there were not value changes between 0 and 1. I ran the rgb through an hsv ramp and change the output 0 to .0025 (because my bump height should be 0.25mm and I’m in cm) and then it works with the bump value at 1. Without that, changing the color values of the bump also works. Either way, this doesn’t feel like the intent to me, but let me know if I’m missing something important.

In case it helps, this is Maya 2026 and vray 7.20.03 rev 33412 (update 2 DR2)

It’s not supported on the GPU (there’s a message in the log).

No issues on a simple scene, so maybe it’s something specific? Send a sample scene so we can troubleshoot. Otherwise, there were issues with the bump multiplier + normal maps, but they were fixed in your particular build.

Yeah, I missed that message about the bump to glossiness. That’s too bad. It seems like it would be really useful for micro-bump textures. I’m rendering products at 8688x5792 close up, so you can see bump that is only .005 inch deep. (I hate that those textures are measured in inches)

I’m onto a new scene now and I used berconNoise for subtle bump on a brushed metal successfully, so it might have been an issue with the scene.
