you need to use vray material with refraction and fog color (the internal color of the water) will give you the color you want.

When I make water I use vray fog. Very easy to adjust the fog color and brightness. Then use either a separate gizmo for the fog, or use your water object as your gizmo. It might be good to tag the water object as “ignore for GI” in the vray properties box. That is if you get undesired shadows cast…

Thats what I do to, feels like it’s easier to control for me - makes it much easier to separate the elements to re-balance it in post too.
