SSS to fog color

Hello,

Im wondering, is it possible to mix Vray material with SSS to get a material which has the same effect when using fog color, but having SSS material to be the fog?
Hard to explain but I hope this simple shot explains more. So instead of Vray material fog, SSSinside of it but still have the clear “water” in thin part of the object.

Set preset to water
Change SSS mode to refractive
Change Scattering color

Profit!

Here is one simple example with SSS material.

Very nice thanks.
Although I forgot to mention that Im using Vray for Maya, and it doesnt seems to have a water preset on SSS2 shader so could you share some vital info how to get this pure refraction in thin parts with SSS?

Wrong forum haha

On the attached screenshot you can see a slightly modified water preset.

Best regards,
Vlado

Hey Vlado, do you know what the scattering radius of water is in “physical” terms?

Thanks Vlado!
Moderator could move this thread to Maya side if needed?

It depends on what’s in the water I guess (mud, minerals etc). For perfectly clear distilled water, there’s probably info somewhere on the internet, I have to look.

Vlado
