My first posting here

Hi guys,

This is my first posting out here… but kick me with tips and critix…
I have this scene with an american store at the window…

I have difficulty with the material and lighting… I get splotches.
Could this be because I have the subdivs of the refraction slot set at 2?
Or should I use translucent (don’t know how).

The material settings are attached.

The lighting is :

IR: High presets,
2 Vray lights (sphere with skylight portal on, subdivs 10). One at that window and one at the back.

Also How do I get the walls more brighter.

I saw a technique in this forum of a set of lights (vray) with different light multipliers from outside the wall, entering the interior.

Tips are very much appreciated…

Thx in advance

Nicolaas

Thx guys

IES

Hi,

I just did a version with IES lights…

I cranked up my hemisphere subdivs to 100 instead of the standard 50.

And high presets… but I still get a lot of artifacts…

Could somebody help me to improve this image .. thx appreciated.

Nicolaas

make a link to your file and well have a look for you

Hi again,

Doing some self education here..

I boosted up the HSV exponential dark multiplier to 3,5.
First bounce 1
Second 0,7
Second depth 10
Hsph subs 50
Interpolation 50
IR preset HIGH

I got it from natty’s tutorial VID !! thx natty

What setting didn’t got any influence here ?

Nicolaas

Damn, are you using translucency on the walls???

Nope,

Not even a material applied…

Not good ?

Nicolaas

yes at least put on a Vray mat. It will render faster.

percy

So applying a vray material to the wall would make faster rendertimes..
Didn’t knew that

Ok gonna check it

Nicolaas

I did 2 scenes… daylight (IR=low presets) and daylight with IES spots on (High presets, woosh IR map took ages (maybe 2-3hrz on my dual xeon Probably because of the IES).. Rendering was 17 minutes Could time be increased ?

ok shoot

Please some help here is appreciated.

Nicolaas

I don’t like to judge my own posts guys.. ehhehe…
Come on.. fire me ..
Maybe some more glossiness on the glass of the fire… or less subdivs..

29minz IR+RENDERING

20minz IR+RENDERING

Lighting wise its looking ALOT better. Id rework the brick tile though.

percy

strangely there’s complete lack of shadows

are you sure you turned the default lights option off ?
when you use only use daylight you have to do that

and that black thing is horrible
at least add some fresnel reflections if you’re keen to keep it

but there’s great progress in your work

Okay…

Stellar:
I turned off default lights.
I have plane vray lights… when I use daylight.

The black thing is a palmvase, it’s the trunk of a palmtree. I’ll try the fresnel reflections.
It’s the palmtree or a Bang & Olufsen plasma…

Percydaman:
The black one or the vanilla one..

PROBLEMS

All of a sudden I get this carnaval.. 2 times… how can I prevent it ?

Nicolaas

Looks like there’s a raytraced material somewhere in the scene. Convert it to Vray mat and I think the carnaval will disappear.

Marc

The black one in my opinion. Just doesn’t appear as refined as other elements. break it up with a subtle texture or something of the like. Of course thats depending on what your going for. When I create Arch Vis work, I tend to try and create a piece of art as supposed to clean elements that a client would rather see.

percy

Nicolaas, the disco started when you put the B&O plasma sceen in… Check the materials.

I agree with stellar, you need to adjust your colormapping to get some deeper shadows.

I still can’t see what’s going on with the wall where the light is coming from - it does resemble translucency. Odd?

Otherwise it’s coming along nicely.

It looks like a vray light the length of the wall set to invisible and 2 sided. A low enough multiplier and it might not blow out the wall enough to keep it from looking like that. My best guess.

percy

Hiyaa.. .

DOn’t understand what you are trying to say percydaman. You mean that my curtain produces too much light ?.. I have only 1 vray light behind my curtain. The curtain is a vray material with a tiles map and refraction with glossiness…

The carnaval was a combination of a vray material and imported geometry I think, because applying another material to the new objects didn’t do anything.. deleting them complete did it.. still didn’t have the time to reimport them. Strange…

Nicolaas

I’m sure it’s a material issue on the imported object(s).

Import the object into a new-MAX scene, and do the materials (all Vray) there. Merge this into your current room-scene (I sometimes find this easier than doing it in my main scene).

Regarding the Carnival - Someone didn’t maybe sneak in overnight while you were asleep and have a paintball fight?
