Yesterday I updated Nvidia drivers to 616.92 and today I have been experiencing 4 resets in a row from my machine when using IR in latest Corona 15 hotfix 2 in Max 26.3.3, Im using Windows 10 22H2.
Could it be the reason? Sincerly Dont know if this is whats causing these restarts, Ill try to get back to older drivers hoping its that, maybe its something odd with mi graphic card (RTX 3060 12gb vram), but its happening as soon as Im using IR in my latest scene. This didnt happen in prior days.
Im sorry for the mistake, when I sent the file to support, AI give me some notes that I hope solve the issue, I have another graphic card,(an old GTX 1050ti) and it seems that it causes the failure, I didnt knew the failure was a blue screen since it wasnt displayed in any monitor from the main card, I plugged one monitor into the old one and it showed the blue screen, whihh AI told me, Corona cannot cause this.
I totally forgot to unplugged this old card after some tests and it seems that when using 3d modelling from ComfyUI (which was the reason I updated the driver) it was some stressfull task for the main GPU having both connected.
I have already unplugged the old card and I did a little tests with IR and everything seems to be fine. Hope that I dont need to buy another one
Hi @maru , updating the issue, everything seems to be perfectly fine at the moment.
According to the message sent from support ticket #511988:
“Set IR denoising to “none”. Then let me know if you are still able to reproduce the crashes / blue screens. The idea is to check if the issues are related to the NVIDIA Optix denoiser”
I started to dig about how Intel Denoiser works in Corona, because its the one I always use, never noticed that “IR” works with GPU even with Intel.
In production theres an hybrid Intel denoiser, how does it work? or its because CPU is for production and GPU for Interactive? Could we have a CPU in IR too?
I was confused because In Vray it uses CPU for Intel denoiser.
"Intel Open Image Denoise – V-Ray’s integration of Intel Open Image Denoise. The Intel Open Image denoiser works with your CPU device and does not use hardware acceleration."
@ChuckRT Here is how the Intel AI (OIDN) denoiser works:
Production rendering: it can use either the CPU or GPU. It automatically detects which option is available to you and uses it. You can also force CPU or GPU backend in development/experimental stuff.
Interactive rendering: only GPU denoising is available and it currently requires an NVIDIA GPU. We do not allow using the CPU backend for interactive rendering because it would be too slow.
The CPU and GPU versions of this denoiser should produce almost identical results.
Thanks Marcin, and what about CIE? I have found that the error on my Graphic Card its still there, I have made some renders and then wanted to open the CIE to save all channels and it got crashed there, I have found that it was because it uses GPU, is it possible to add CPU there in order to add a request about it?
no no no no no… well sincerly I dont know at the moment, yesterday video signal crash just when I was opening this page with anything opened, so I really dont know whats goin on with my PC.
But thats not what I meant, what I was refering is that when this crash happened, I noticed CIE doesnt support Intel CPU only GPU, thats odd I remember this was CPU, maybe I misread it like i did with Interactive .
Thats why im asking if theres a way to use Intel CPU denoiser in CIE.
@ChuckRT so there is actually a way to force either the CPU or GPU Intel denoising in CIE, but I’m afraid you can only use it with the command-line version:
The parameter name is Int denoise.oidnBackend
and the accepted values are auto, cpu, and cuda. Using cuda results in GPU-only denoising.
The easiest way to use this is by downloading the CIE batch edit script, then editing the file Postprocess.conf and adding a single line Int denoise.oidnBackend = cpu like this:
Then you can run the included batch script and denoising will be done using the backend of your choice. Of course provided that your input CXR file has the required denoising data in it.
You can probably load such .conf file in the GUI version of CIE as well, but to do that, you first need to open your CXR in it, which, as far as I understand, would cause an immediate crash in your case.
