Outlines for all edges?

I’m trying to make diagrams with enscape but not all the edges are visible. Some are partially visible, as you can see in the case of the box sitting on the plane.

Is it possible to have them all visible? Or to control the minimum distance or angle from which they start to disappear ?

Are you looking from a huge distance? This can be a precision problem. Does it look better when you are close?

Hi Thomas,

Yes, I’m looking from a huge distance because I need a small FOV, because my diagram should be axonometric.

When I get closer the outlines show up.

But then, how do I get an axo view (like 10deg) while still having the outlines?

Thanks!

You can’t do anything about it, sorry. We will see if we can fix that.

Looking forward to axonometric view. For diagrams, would be awesome!

And parallel projection for elevations also.

@FloatingVolume we released a new preview version which includes a fix (You find it at our download page). Please let me know if this issue is solved for you.

@Thomas_Willberger

Are you planning an official release for this one soon? IT department here is quite busy. They won’t bother with preview versions. ?(

Yes we plan to release it soon but I can’t promise a timeframe because it depenss on if we find nore blockers during QA.

@Thomas_Willberger

Maybe a related question to this issue:

Does your new release give any more control to outlines? I am specifically looking for outlines that are thinner further from the camera, as opposed to uniform widths throughout an image. If this preference already exists I would love to know where it lives in the settings.

Thanks!

This is currently not configurable but thanks for mentioning. We might add that in the future.

(Hi-jacking this thread rather than starting a new one)

I never use outlines; I go to all the trouble of making my model look as real as I can, then make it look like a cartoon again? However I can see the advantage of turning it on and making some objects transparent so that you can view what’s behind them. So I tried it on my current WIP…

A couple of things I noticed about outlines:

  • Each blade of grass is outlined. (1)

  • The outline goes around any transparency mask. (3)

  • Transparent surfaces are not outlined. (5)

  • The change in material on the same plane is not outlined. (6)

  • “Smooth/Soft/Hidden” edges are still outlined. (4)

  • Some edges do not get outlined. (2,7)

Can the transparency feature be utilised to make grass (and any material tagged “Foliage”) 99% opaque which will then mean that it does not get outlines applied? (This has some interesting effects if you try to apply a transparency to a PNG that has an alpha channel already mapped to the transparency… but it does get rid of the outlines)

There should be an ON/OFF setting for coplanar edges to be outlined or not.

Please see the image below for a comparison to Vray.

This edges are very important for marking the levels of buildings in diagrams and sometimes facades are coplanar.

Please make transparent surfaces outlined.

Please don’t - I want my frameless glass balustrade to look like it’s frameless. I want to be able to join bits of water with different properties, I want to have the edges of a wine glass blend seamlessly and be able to fill a glass with liquid, I want to model a spill of water… Any time I want something transparent to have an edge it will be modeled into another object; why would I ever want them to have edges?

@Gadget_1 ,

For architecture diagrams this will save hours of extra work.

“Any time I want something transparent to have an edge it will be modeled into another object” - this is what I am also doing and it’s a lot of extra work.

We could have an on/off setting for this though with or without edges for transparent objects.
