Phoenix FD Ocean Help - Waves Ignoring Obstacle, No Foam

Hello,

I`m very new at phoenix and I’m trying to set up an ocean scene where waves crash against a rocky island, but I’m running into some issues with Phoenix FD in Maya. I’m starting simple - just using a cube as a test island - but can’t seem to get the results I need.

First problem:
My ocean waves are completely ignoring the cube, even though I’ve set it up as a solid obstacle. I used the “Setup an Ocean Sim with Selected Objects” option and made sure the cube is listed as an obstacle, but the waves just pass right through it. I’ve cranked up the wind speed in the Ocean Shader to get bigger waves, but they still don’t react to the cube like I’d expect.

Second issue:
No matter how strong I make the waves, I’m not getting any foam both on the waves and water hitting the obstacle. I figured increasing the wave intensity would automatically create some splash and foam, but nothing’s showing up.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Double-checking that the cube is properly set as an obstacle
  • Playing with wind speed and wave height settings
  • Poking around in the foam parameters (but honestly not sure what I should be looking for)

At this point I’m wondering:

  • Am I missing some crucial setting for obstacle collisions?
  • Is there a trick to getting foam to generate where waves hit objects?
  • Would I be better off using a different simulation approach?

Any advice would be super helpful - I feel like I must be overlooking something obvious! Thanks in advance for any pointers. I`m using Phoenix 5 for Maya 2024 / Vray 7.x
