Phoenix free render nodes?

Hi ChaosGroup

With the introduction of paid rendernodes with VRay 3.0, please tell me Phoenix will remain free for render nodes and that there are NO PLANS to introduce paid rendernodes anywhwere in the near future?

There are no plans to make Phoenix rendering paid. As before, a license is only needed for the simulation (in fact, at some point, the rendering part might be folded in V-Ray itself).

Best regards,
Vlado

Thanks, that’s good to know

This sounds like fun.
Is that kind of thing likely to come in when the only updates will be to the simulation part?

We haven’t decided yet really. But it has happened so many times already that users want to render simulations done with other fluid simulators that don’t have V-Ray specific shaders and so are not optimized for performance. This is even more true in Maya than in 3ds Max. In such cases, it would be very convenient if the Phoenix rendering shaders were included in V-Ray so that people could render volumetric stuff that comes out of other sources. Of course, first we need to implement support for some standard file formats like Field3D and OpenVDB.

Best regards,
Vlado
