Hi guys.
I’m trying to render locally using VRay standalone but the Phoenix ocean shader is not rendering out from the vrscene file.
Rendering it from Maya is just fine, any ideas as to why this may be?
I’m not sure if I need to use the “Plugins Name Prefix” field when exporting as vrscene, could it be to do with that?
We couldn’t reproduce it here. Can you send over а scene, so we could see what’s happening?
Can you tell us which Phoenix FD build are you using? The information could be found in the Top Maya Phoenix FD Menu → About Phoenix FD.
Also, can you tell us which V-Ray version you have installed? You can find the V-Ray version in the Top Maya V-Ray Menu → About V-Ray.
Here is the vrscene file and maya scene file with all assets stripped out apart from the water.
Many thanks for looking into this, would be good to get it working with standalone.
Could you send over the Phoenix FD log file - it’s located in C:\PhoenixFD, and the V-Ray log file - it could be found in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp.
Could you check if you have Phoenix FD installed on the machine from where you are starting the Standalone?
Could you check if there are any warnings or errors in the Standalone’s console/terminal? Are you sure the machine where you are rendering the .vrscene has Phoenix FD installed?
If there are no warnings and you have Phoenix FD installed, could you try uninstalling it and installing it again in Workstation Mode?
OK have now installed both latest versions licenses running…
I then tried to continue rendering the sample scene I sent you and now get this error in the script editor..
// Warning: file: C:/Users/xxxxx/Desktop/scene.ma line 9645: Unrecognized node type ‘PhoenixFDOceanTexture’; preserving node information during this session. //
// Warning: line 1327: The default image may not be modified. Use the -i/image flag instead. //
// Warning: line 0: Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss.
I knew I should have tried this after I finished rendering..getting scared now
Update..
Reinstalling Maya fixed the Phoenix installer not seeing the Maya folder. So all fresh install.
Re export vrsecene file but still not rendering oceans shader but VFB can within Maya..
Could you check if you have a vray_phoenix.dll installed in the vrayplugins folder? You can find this folder under C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\vray\vrayplugins.
I can confirm that the vray_phoenix.dll has been installed, I saved the installer log and it has the entry below
Create C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\vray/vrayplugins\vray_phoenix.dll
- saving a .vrscene from Maya 2020 with “Use V-Ray VFB” disabled;
- navigating to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2020\vray\bin and starting the cmd;
- here is the command I’m using to start the render: vray -sceneFile=“c:\temp\my_file.vrscene” -imgFile=“c:\temp\render.png”.
Are your steps the same as mine? Could you try using my steps in the same order I made them and send us over the whole log from the Standalone’s console?
OK so I just tried your steps and I still couldnt get the ocean to render.
My steps are:
1. Open vray standalone command prompt.
2. using vray -sceneFile=“D:\Projects\2020\AUT_11121_Boat\VRay\houseboat.vrscene” -display=1
This saves out a file same as your method without displacement.
P.S. There is no gap in the file name “houseboat.vrscene” I couldnt for some reason close the gap in the text in the thread above!!?? vray command log.txt (11.8 KB)
