If you use plugin textures from the import drop down this crashes maya , at least in the node editor- (i just got a crash using maxcomptex and plugging it into vray material diffuse) . I havent tried it another way yet (im about to do this) , any ideas on a workaround? It would be great if the node editor worked with these plugin textures, because this would mean you could use an almost identical workflow to 3ds max. It would also be good if there were descriptions in the values, like in 3ds max, so you didn’t have to go to the spot3d site every time you want to see what a plugin texture does.
Dont know about anyone else but i mostly use the Max specific nodes…the nodes that are not possible to copy in maya. EG i use falloffTex almost every day (Can’t really cheat many of the options with a sampler info node) and also colour correct and bercon noise. i still have to go onto the web link for the parameters…it’s a bit annoying but worth it to unlock all those great nodes. Would be great to have tool tips for the dropdowns, at least on the Max/XSI specific ones.
The crashes seem to be happening less when i change the compatibility to Maya, but it’s definitely pretty crashy if you try to build shading networks purely out of plugin nodes…
I did a few test with the plugins you are talking about but I didn’t get any crashes - would it be possible to send us example scene with some shading network with VrayPlugin-nodes which is pretty crashy on your side in order to play around with it.
Also what do you mean by import-from-drop-down ? Are you talking about the TAB-drop-down-menu into Node Editor ? If it so which nodes are you creating from there ?
I’m talking about the drop down menus in the plugins themselves, in the attribute editor. For example falloff texture has drop downs for type and direction type, and at the moment you can only see numbers 0-9 rather than a text description of the direction type (viewZ,viewX,viewY,explicit, localX,localY). Unless you have memorised them they are pretty much unuseable without having to refer to the website.
I’ll try to get a scene together to demonstrate but i can assure you there are crash issues when you try to build networks based on those plugins alone…
We can’t seem to get that specific build to crash in the way you described. If you come across this again (with the nightly builds), it would be helpful if you could get us a scene or a screen video.
Cool ok i’ll try when i get a chance, maybe i got the build number wrong but i had 3/4 crashes in a row when trying to use the comptex/ bercon noise in the node editor
Just had another go… still crashing. Try this… create a vray material. Create a falloff tex and a compMaxTex in the node editor… expand all the variables in the node editor so you can see all the input/output connections. Plug the source A of the CompMaxTex into the outcolour of the FaloffTex. Try a few different connections, from different outputs to inputs. . Crashes every time when i do it.
