I am wondering if there is a recommended filter setting for diffuse/color maps? Maya’s default setting is “Quadratic” with Filter Effect value of 1.0.
I have hand painted maps to define the grime, rust, and dirt of hard surface objects, and intend to render out animation. Should I:
a) turn the filter off to get the best details? (will this cause any problem for rendering animation)
b) use certain type of filter and set value to something like 0.1?
c) suggestions?
So it’s better to set the Filter Type to “Off” in the file node and let VRay handle the filtering? If yes, Is there a setting for us to control VRay’s texture filtering?
If rendering with MR, there is an advanced elliptical filter (enabled by using mipmap as the filter type) to sharpen the texture where needed. Is there a similar feature in VRay?
Keep in mind that this won’t work very well (or at all) if you have many and large textures which don’t fit in the RAM and require the use of tiled OpenEXR textures.
Couple question:
1) What format should I use to save my 16-bit textures out of Photoshop before I run them through the new utitlity to convert them to tiled EXR?

Just to confirm, for tiled EXR, I better use mip-map filter and reduce the scale globally or locally to sharpen the texture to my like?
