Hi
I have a glass bowl in my scene, with a simple glass material. It renders fine with IPR, but there is an issue with production rendering where edges appear black
The GPU engine can render that fine as well, with both IPR and production rendering. This only happens on CPU

Hello @Muhammed_Hamed , I’ve reproduce the problem and it’s not Houdini related, same thing in maya too. I’ll make an issue about it and will inform you when I know something more.
Thanks Georgy!
And if you know a workaround that would be great, for now I will use the GPU engine
Yes, I just found the workaround, you need to reduce “Max Depth” in the glass material > Refraction > Advanced to a smaller value, it works well with 5.
Ya, the problem happens with Max Depth higher than 5
The visual difference is massive though, 24 Max Depth is minimum I use for glass to look good
I will see how it goes with 5, but most likely it won’t be enough
Thanks for your help!
Try to increase “global max depth” in VRay ROP > Options > Materials, it looks like the option is used even if it’s not enabled !
@chakarov You are a legend sir
works nicely now!
I also use Vray for Maya.. you said this issue is present there?
Do I need to report that?
The difference between using 5 and 24 Max Depth is huge, even with just a simple bowl that I uploaded for you. You can see how the edge looks very realistic with 24
You do not need to report it in V-Ray for maya, once we found where the problem comes from, we will fix it.
