Enable the ability to save Field of View and Resolution settings per scene, streamlining workflows by avoiding the need to manually change these settings (or presets) for each scene.
Detailed Explanation:
Imagine being a photographer who can’t directly rotate the camera or adjust the zoom ring – that’s what it feels like in Enscape right now.
This feature would be beneficial for users working with multiple scenes that require specific camera settings. Currently, while sun position overrides are stored per scene, other camera parameters like Field of View (FOV) and Resolution (that also involve portrait/landscape) must be manually changed with each new scene or (workaround) assinged by creating a specific visual preset. This process can be tedious.
Allowing these camera settings to be set per scene would offer a significant improvement in efficiency and flexibility, as these parameters often vary based on the intended shot composition. For example, creating a vertical image export requires both a specific resolution for the vertical frame and a narrower FOV.
By adding Field of View and Resolution settings into the scene-specific controls, users would have the same on-the-fly adjustment capabilities as in real-world photography, where each shot demands unique camera adjustments. This streamlined workflow would benefit architects who need to produce multiple perspectives with distinct visual requirements.
Thank you for sharing your insights about Depth of Field - that’s an interesting perspective. To better understand your request, could you share some visual examples of what you would like to achieve? Would you like to adjust the DoF manually or you expect this to be done automatically ?
As you can see, this image has an invisible plane that when intersects any object, it glows a white thick line once WE move around. It makes sense for still renders that this line shows you what is focused and vanishes once you stop moving around but for realtime editing and working, the line is always there and navigating the project becomes weird and not a presentation. Enscape is so much more than a still image render software.
Auto focus is what I mainly use but its workflow is not the best since when navigating I always need to open the view settings menu to correct it. Cursor pinpointing without the need of any menu would make our work easier and cleaner. So resuming it, when DOF is on, it would be great to navigate around and not having the white thick line all the time and be able to click where you want your focus to be. The white line only appears once you click for the focus pinpoint, never when you are moving…
I completely agree—this feature would be immensely useful. Additionally, it would be even more powerful if scene controls could include both Field of View and Resolution (consequently aspect ratio) settings. These parameters are often interconnected; for instance, exporting a vertical image requires a specific resolution to achieve a vertical frame and also an adjusted Field of View, typically narrower. Currently, these settings must be reset manually with each scene, which can be cumbersome. Having them saved per scene would streamline the workflow significantly.
This is an essential observation to me: the Visual Settings panel currently houses a mix of parameters
environmental settings that define the physical conditions of the scene (e.g., sunlight intensity, clouds, fog)
camera settings, such as exposure, aspect ratio, and focal length (Field of View).
The latter often vary from shot to shot, much like the sun position, which you’ve already made scene-specific. As in photography, each shot may require adjustments to these camera settings. Having the ability to tweak them directly within the scene panel like “on camera” “while shooting,” would be incredibly helpful and would streamline the workflow for capturing varied views.
In the new update, the addition of sun position and angle in Edit view panel has been very convenient to use. Thanks for including this.
I would suggest to add Field of view in the same panel. Since we already have camera position setting accessible from the Edit view panel, then we should be able to adjust the field of view at the same panel.
Also, graphically we do have space in the bottom to accommodate the field view tab
As the main goal of Enscape is improving the experience during the design process, we are currently not considering adding features that allow to replicate visual output of physical cameras.
This request was not about replicating visual output of physical cameras (and It is explained in comments) Main point is to make your DOF slider actually help in rendering, not just blur everything except of thin sharp strip.
Can you elaborate a little more on this? How would a foreground/background blur slider be different to the slider we are currently providing for depth of field?
slider or two sliders should define the distance where the blur starts and where it ends. The point of this request is not photorealistic photo camera settings, just ability to make sharp area larger. For start it can be done by adding only one more slider (Sharp are size) to current settings.
Ok, understood. I assume that your primary use case for this is for images and videos that you render, right? Or is there also a use case for the walkthrough that I can’t see?
Depth of Field relates to the distance from the camera to the target so it is not a vertical plane but a sphere. What that sphere touches is what is focused and with super horizontal frames or images you really feel this diference.
One other thing is that rendering is great and producing videos also, but WE all use the real time feature the most so there should be an option to have depth of field but with this white plane invisible
