Hi All
I need to animate a parachute being deployed from cargo dropped from a plane. Can I achieve this with simcloth or would you recommend something else?

I think you may be able to do this with reactor. Cloth for the parachute…splines for the cables (not sure if id use the rope modifier) and a block at the bottom for the main mass. I think then you can add air resistance to the cloth…
Or just keyframe it…it depends how realistic you want it.

I ended up doing this with morph targets. Turned out great for my needs as it is only seen for short while and its motionblurred.
