speed up 3ds max vieport when hide objects?

Hi,

I know 3ds max has problem with this all the time, but still is there some workaround? What I mean - I have a robust scene with a lots of objects, lots of Forest Pack, lots of animation and so on and viewport is slow even for some basic animation. Then I hide most groups with lots of objects, but viewport is still slow even it display only few objects. Is there something I can do whit that? Its really annoying. Thank you.

I have found setting Forest Pro’s display to something like pyramid works. Also, the latest AD update helped improved things for me.

I mean max viewport in general, even without Forest.
Latest AD update mean latest autodesk 3ds max update?
Thanks.

I believe there are certain objects and/or controllers that get evaluated even if they are hidden, specifically when animating / time changes. I recall having a scene that was rigged where lots of objects had script controllers, it was clear that those script controllers were being evaluated every frame even when their objects were hidden. Once we removed those objects (or replaced the script controllers with normal position xyz controllers) the playback was perfect (regardless if they were visible or not). Essentially, don’t trust that just because things are hidden they aren’t impacting your performance. Fully remove them from the scene to determine what it is that is causing the performance impact.

Yes, I know that. I just ask if there is some workaround. Max is really stupid to compute something what is hidden.

What’s your max version?
3dsMax is actually very good at not calculating in terms of geometry and modifier stacl.
But, all controllers are evaluated all the time.
Also.. some plugins fire up notification no matter what.
Also.. If you have animated texture on object, they will be reloaded. I think this fixed in 2018.

I mean general viewport. When you have too much objects and scene is too heavy, its just slow viewport down. Its a normal thing. But when I hide lot of objects I expect it will be better, but its not. I dont animate something, max just dont speed up viewport when you hide objects.

Well.. that’s not normal.
I have scene open with 120mil and hundreds objects, I don’t feel slowness.
I use performance preset.

But when you moving something or doing something, its slower comparing blank viewport and moving a cube.

Even though if I have 100 mil in the scene, if I hide them all.
My 3dsMax perform almost same as blank scene.
If your max viewport is slow evem after you hide all objects.
Then you need to find out what;s causing that.
That’s not normal.

I dont think so. I tried that in a lot of computers and it was everytime the same. Try load some exterior evermotion scene. There are thousands and thousands of objects, most of them are standard objects, not proxies. Its really slow and when you hide something, its still slow.

I can’t speak for new versions, but in 3ds max 2016, hidden objects do not affect scene performance at all.

I agree. I have installed 2017 and 2018 and its the same.
