Strange shadows when bump/displacement active

Hi everybody,

I’m sending a post here after trying out multiple configurations on my texture and ending always on the same problem,

So, when i activate bump or displacement on my texture and I have the sun light razing on rounded surfaces there is this kind of stairs shadows appearing, its gone when bump deactivated.

Two pics with bump on and off for example.

In this case its a very simple scene with sun for lightning only.

Thanks in advance for your time !

Welcome to our forum.

Can you kindly please first off check if your Rhino project is set to the scale of “CM” (centimeters) via the Rhino settings? Do you experience this behavior with a less finegrained bump/normal texture as well? Could you perhaps attach the file you’ve been using as bump too?

Hi, thanks for your answer !

I usually work in mm in rhino so I just tried to change it to cm with rescale or not ans it’s the same result.

It doesn’t change whatever file I use for the bump/normal/displacement, always the same, here is a render with project in cm and the bump file i used in this case.

Thanks !

Hey @FlorentFaust , sorry for keeping you waiting.

It seems to me like the shadow effect you’re pointing out may be caused by the mesh itself, not the bump map. Is it the same if you don’t apply a bump map at all?

If so, try rendering an actual image using the “Screenshot” button. This should improve the shadow, doesn’t it?
