Suggestions for future updates of Enscape

Subject: User Feedback from a Long-term Educator & Enscape Enthusiast (v2.3-v4.6)

Dear Enscape Team, As an architectural educator in China and a loyal Enscape user since v2.3 (currently using v4.6), I was thrilled to see your call for lighting system suggestions. Here are my hands-on observations from both teaching and practical use:

Enscape Feature Enhancement Proposal

1. Interoperability Improvements

Current real-time synchronization causes significant lagging and frequent crashes when importing models. We recommend implementing an optional linkage system similar to Twinmotion/D5/Unreal Engine, allowing users to choose between:

  • Real-time updates

  • Manual single updates

This would dramatically improve stability during model placement.

2. Lighting System Upgrades

2.1 Controllable Attenuation Range

Artificial lights currently lack adjustable falloff distance. Adding this parameter would enhance scene adaptability.

2.2 Reflection Visibility Toggle

Industry-standard practice:

  • Add ā€œInvisible in Reflectionsā€ option

  • Maintain illumination brightness while hiding light source visibility

2.3 Sun Shadow Color Spectrum

Current limitation: Yellow-only shadow tone

Request: Implement color slider (yellow to blue) for atmospheric variation

2.4 Light Bounce Optimization

Indoor GI performance lags behind competitors due to insufficient light bounce calculations

2.5 Stage Lighting Effects

Request: Volumetric light beam effects (e.g., theatrical spotlights)

2.6 Scalable Light Sources

Current issue:

  • 3m maximum size forces artificial light combinations

  • Causes incorrect shadow generation

Solution proposal:

  • Implement size scaling slider

  • Remove hard-coded 3m limit

3. Material System Enhancements

3.1 SketchUp Material Synchronization

Persistent issues:

  • Texture/UV mismatches

  • Display scale inconsistencies

Suggested solution:

  • One-click repair function

  • Real-time scaling adjustment

3.2 Render Exclusion Option

Request:

  • ā€œExclude from renderingā€ checkbox per material

  • Particularly useful for:

• Curtain materials

• Background environments

3.3 Fabric Material Presets

Need dedicated optimization for cloth materials

3.4 Animated/Video Materials

Feature regression notice:

  • Transparency control for video textures (fire/water animations) existed pre-v3.2

  • Request restoration of this functionality

These workflow-critical improvements would align Enscape with industry benchmarks while addressing persistent user pain points.

In before the standard canned message from support pointing to the Ideas Portal…

What you have listed are all great requests and I know at least a few are on there. I appreciate the candor and community discussions these posts generate and hope to see some insight from the likes of @Clemens_Musterle etc.

In the past two years, Enscape has failed to deliver substantial updates. Compared to leading real-time rendering solutions in the market, it has significantly fallen behind in terms of features, user experience, rendering speed, and output quality. There has been minimal improvement in both rendering efficiency and image clarity. We strongly urge the development team to prioritize user needs - otherwise, Enscape risks substantial user attrition to more competitive alternatives."

Well, my Enacape annual license was up for renewal last week and I did not renew. Decided it was time to give D5 a fair shake and so far I’m very pleased. I’m just one license so who cares I guess, but thought I’d at least give my experience.
