Support of DLSS

Hello!

I was wondering what Version of DLSS is Enscape currently using? DLSS 2.0 / 3.0 / 3.5?

Hi @nina_2 and thanks for your inquiry!

At the moment DLSS 2.2.9.0 is used (by our latest releases), where as frame generation provided by DLSS 3 for example is not yet supported nor implemented.

In case you have any wishes or future feature requests in this regard or otherwise you can also feel free to forward them to our product management directly for review by making use of the Chaos Enscape Ideas Portal: Chaos Enscape Ideas Portal (How to forward/upvote Feature/Asset Requests directly) - Feature Requests & Questions - Enscape

Please let me know in case of any further questions as well!

Thank you for your quick response!

The reason for my question is related to my GPU usage in percentage. While flying through my viewport, I monitored my hardware stats using MSI Afterburner. I noticed that the GPU usage consistently spikes to 97-98% during movement. However, once I stop moving, it drops back to around 4-10%.

Despite this, my FPS remains very stable, averaging around 196 FPS, and the performance is incredibly smooth. My GPU temperature stays within a reasonable range, between 55-61°C, so there are no apparent issues. This behavior also occurs in empty scenes, where the Task Manager shows a similar GPU usage of around 98%.

Could this be normal behavior? Is Enscape designed to maximize GPU usage to achieve the best possible performance and visual results?

My Hardware:
RTX 4080

i7 13th

64 GB RAM

I have

  • Ray-Traced Shadows,

  • NVIDIA Shadow Denoiser,

  • Grass/Carpet Rendering,

  • Hardware-Accelerated Ray-Tracing,

  • NVIDIA DLSS

all turned on.

Hi @nina_2 , when the framerate in Enscape is uncapped, the 97-98% GPU usage spikes are expected, even in an empty scene. However, if you were to limit the framerate to something like 60 FPS instead of 196 FPS, the GPU usage should drop significantly to around 30-60%. Additionally, if you remain stationary, Enscape may enter our “Restmode” (if enabled in the “General Settings”). In this mode, all animations stop, which reduces GPU load while some final quality adjustments are being applied.

In summary, if you aren’t experiencing any issues as you mention then this behavior is completely normal. The temperatures are entirely within range as well, on the lower side too actually.

If you do ever encounter any problems, feel free to submit a support report with log files. Our dedicated support team will then be happy to investigate further to reach back out to you thereafter.

@Demian_Gutberlet Really hoping to see DLSS 4 implemented, even 3. The quality and speed improvements are becoming very impressive.

@nina_2 I would also recommend you look into undervolting your 4080 with a custom voltage curve. Less noise, less power, less heat for ~ same performance.

Thanks for your feedback @Tim_3 - As always just to make sure please also forward this wish of yours through your voice directly via the Chaos Enscape Ideas Portal for our product management team to see and review directly. That is of course only in case you haven’t already.

You’re telling me that I should suggest that Enscape use the latest DLSS as an “idea”? As if they are unaware of the benefits or it’s something that any user would immediately agree with? Come on…

I’ve got two “declined” "ideas in there so far, so my experience with it is not favorable.

Hi @Tim_3 , right away please pardon me for my prior post as you’re of course correct here and there was/is no need to specifically forward this as a feature request or similar.

Just to further update you, our latest preview 2 of Enscape 4.6.0 releasing later today will also officially support DLSS 4. That in turn means that DLSS 4 should also find its way into the next official release itself soon.
