Texturing organics: material tests

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

haha not a non believer, just that that texture doesnt look projected, but after some experimenting i found i could achieve a similar effect

not a ney-sayer… more of a how-sayer

cheers and again very nice renders

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

Thanks,

I uploaded the model to 3DWarehouse:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=1cfa3f825fd2fcfb4083c414ed3a6752
The texturing method I used is view dependant, so if someone knows how to texture it so it would look great from all angles, please share

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I made some tests on the material studio software. Everything works fine. But when i try to apply on the model nothing happens. I guess the only way is making linked materials.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I am not following. What exactly is not working?

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

“I am not following. What exactly is not working?”

bumps and displacement.

The same happened here: Chaos: Industry-leading design and visualization software

They work on preview (or in material studio) but they don´t on the model.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

hi guis, this is my test with caustics, thanks so mutch to share.

I made some test

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

Cheer up Kgoku ;).

Actually, displacement asks for ‘good’ geometry to be applied to.
And ‘good’ geometry is a mesh consisting of triangles.
When using displacement, it will always subdivide your geometry, so you should start with geometry that will subdivide well (=triangulated meshes).

Sometimes, displacement fails to work when applied on a perfect horizontal plane.
But from the moment you triangulate it and rotate it just a bit, it can suddenly start working.
As a matter of fact, it works more easily on a good triangulated organic shape than on a simple quad face…

At least that is my observation.

@DesignerFuture: Wow you have a nice collection of displacement maps at your disposal. Looking good.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I saw this one in scketchucation.com forum right biebel?

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I first posted them here, but I thought it was useful to post the tutorial on texturing on SCF as it is a Sketchup related forum.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

hi bibel.
I’m wondering if would it be possible for you to upload the matterials you have made to the downloads section in asgvis. I think everyone would be so much thatsfull and that would be rally yousefull.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

I would love to…but they are commercial textures.

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

oh ok
can i buy them somewhere ?

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

Hi guys,

When I saw this thread I thought this would be the right place for my question. I’ve made an organic design.
The outer facade will be of glass en the overall construction of henoycomb concrete.
Is there any way to render this material with a displacement bump so you’ll get an instant effect of the structure.

Here are the pictures and skp file packed in a .rar file

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

Thanks Biebel for the tut. Really appreciate it.

Regards,

Mike

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

fantastic biebel.. you’re really a wizard of rendering.. ;D

bytw, do you have a tip how to create a library of material so we can use it in every project?

the case is like this, i have a furniture that already textured oth in vray mat and SU mat, but everytime i use that furniture in different file, i have to apply the vray mat again to them..

Maybe you have a clue on how to make it a simple way?

Thanks & regards,
VD

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

Do I need to use bitmap on displacement? Since I used the image already in sketchup?

how do you make those glass texture…??

Re: Texturing organics: material tests

displacement is too strong
