The Lake House - Corona + Vantage

Hi guys!

With a big pleasure I am sharing with you a new showcase video made with Corona and Vantage.
I found some limitations still not resolved but the overall experience was fantastic!

Thanks for watching!:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Can you reveal which parts were rendered in Corona and which ones in Vantage?
What I also find interesting is that the DOF is super smooth and that there is no flickering visible in reflective and refractive surfaces. Did you use some post-processing for these things?
Also, amazing job, thank you for sharing it!

Dear Maru, thanks for getting back and for your comments!

Maybe you won’t believe it but EVERYTHING is rendered in Vantage! Included the initial logo animation (EVOLVIA IMAGING).
Also, the dust particles that you can see in the video are made with Particle Flow and I’ve managed to rendered that too!!! The only frames where are created inside Adobe Premiere are: The Lake House title and the end titles.

Corona is used only as a shader / materials. The main engine was Vantage.

As for the flickering, I has some issues some times with the mettalic shaders, only twice, I did a lot of tests and I’ve found some settings which where working fine.
There is no post-processing on the frames. Only final color grading in Premiere.

Something that I’ve found very buggy was the Nvidia Reduce Flickering option which sometimes was producing artifacts and flickering on the non-metal surfaces, walls, furnture, ecc.
Turning it off was the key to render everything smooth at the end. That is a bit strange, correct?

Thanks again for your comments!

Amazing! this is the best ive seen from vantage. great work. how can I learn vantage to this level quickly? any good Corona vantage tutorials you can share?

Looks great well done.

Personally i would re edit it, it has me me me, written all over it.
it’s very obvious you did nearly everything and you did it very well.
I would cut back on the logos an bit and the credits are too long. it should be about the Work.
Sorry if that’s sounds harsh.
Phil

Thanks for your comments!
For me as well was the first time I used Vantage and I am quite impressed.
Is not perfect yet but now is ok.

I studied everything by myself, saw some tutorials online to understand some technical issues.
After that, once I understood the base, I proceeded by my own.

Take a look at the tutorials online, YouTube has already plenty of them. Then try by your own to find your personal workflow.

Thanks again!

Hi Philip,

Thank you for your comments, I genuinely appreciate your point of view.

This is a showcase video. It wasn’t created to demonstrate that I did everything on my own, but rather to attract new, high-quality clients who resonate with my vision and artistic approach.

The foundation is deliberately cinematic, which is why the logo intro and the end credits are longer than usual.

I understand that some people may not have the time or patience for this format. For me, however, it’s similar to watching a short film in a cinema: you buy a ticket knowing that you’ll see logos, introductions, credits, and pacing that serve the experience as a whole.

At this stage, I won’t be editing or shortening the piece. This is the complete and intentional version, and it will remain as it is. CGI is art, and my goal was to present something with a strong cinematic identity.

In the end, what truly matters is the result: connecting with clients who appreciate this point of view and in that sense, the project has already succeeded.

Thanks again!

Looks fantastic, great work!

We’re looking to utilize Vantage for animation. Can you give an idea of your render times and what kind of hardware you have? Also, did you have to make any adjustments to the workflow outlined in the tutorial posted here? https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/36239447702801-How-to-Render-Corona-for-3ds-Max-Animations-in-Vantage

Hi!

Thanks for your comments!
The render times where 40sec per frame with an RTX 4090 card in HD format.
I saw the tutorial as well and I did no special adjustements far from that.
I used 1400 samples for the final rendered frames in the rendering dialog.

I just wanted to get back to you , and say well done again…feeling guilty about my comment.
The work is great.

Have a good Christmas.
Phil

Hey Phil!

Why feeling guilty???
You wrote down your opinion, is correct, you were right, from the other side the format I choose was for fun, was for something cinematic.

Don’t worry about it, really!

Merry Christmas to you as well!

Hi. Your work is amazing.

I have a question: how do you export the corona animation, or how do you convert it to Vray?

It’s great to receive your feedback.

Hi!

Thanks for your comments!
I simply used the send animation option in the Corona System page.
There is no user/manual conversion in the Vray format, the software once you send the scene to Vantage, automatically does all the conversion.

The workflow is not difficult ma was not so easy to figure out some things which now that I know they’re simple at the end.
It is very important before you send an animation to load in Vantage’s default settings the tonemapping and engine setup for it’s camera.
You can do that by sending the scene to Vantage first (Vantage Live Link button), do your setup and save it as a default profile to be opened once the animation setup is ready to be loaded in Vantage.

It’s a shame there is no way to save a config file for each camera/scene and load it independently.
Hope it will be there one day…

Thanks again,

Dionysios -

Beautiful lighting and textures!

Are you also using Vantage for stills or just animations? I’m not referring to this particular project but to your worflow in general.

Also, did you use ai for upscaling or for other details?

Thanks.

Thank you so much!

It was my very first time using Vantage.
For now I am thinking of it only for animation projects.
Yes, I’ve used the Topaz Video upscaler and it worked so great!!! Nice combination of software!

Thanks again.
