Ultraflares v1.0 released

Hey gang - hope this shameless promotion is in the right place! As a long-time VRay user I think this compliments the 3D workflow nicely.

I’m pleased to announce the immediate availability of Ultraflares v1.0, the ultimate lens flare and light studio for Adobe Photoshop and compatible hosts!

Backed by over a year and a half of research and development, Ultraflares boasts some of the most advanced and realistic lens flare features available today. Ultraflares comes packed with hundreds of presets including over 65 natural flares, over 60 stylized flares, over 35 glints and over 40 light leaks, all modeled after real-world light phenomena.

Ultraflares is much more than a lens flare plugin; it’s a full feature light studio. Not only does it allow the artist to produce sophisticated lens flares, but also the ability to generate a wide variety of complex camera lens effects including the generation of volumetric lights, glows, light glints, star filters, sun glows, star bursts, film burns & aberrations, light leaks, highlight accents, photo filters, bokehs, lens textures, and much, much more. It is an indispensable tool for 3D artists looking to push their 3D renders to the next level.

Ultraflares features stunningly-realistic iris effects such as spherical aberration, aberration scale, aberration offset and asymmetry for replicating ultra-realistic natural lens flares. Circular completion controls how much of the iris diameter (in degrees) is visible while light distribution, a new and truly unique feature specific to Ultraflares only, controls the illumination across the iris with it’s respective angle. Chromatic aberration can be globally applied to the entire flare while spectral coloring can work on any number of specific objects. Add subtle touches like iris edge ringing to push the realism to the next level.

Ultraflares brings the power of lens textures to the artist’s fingertips. Select any lens texture and watch as Ultraflares realistically illuminates the texture according to it’s lens flare color, location and structure. Choose Ultraflares’ own highly configurable procedural lens orbs object or use custom textures of any kind. Embedded custom textures in compatible file formats such as PSD allow Ultraflares to easily toggle between multiple textures.

Ultraflares is the definitive solution for any hobbyist or professional digital artist, designer or photographer demanding cutting-edge, high-quality lens flares and light effects. Check out the website for a full list of features and detailed flare galleries.

Does support 32 bit and is the flare driven by brightness intensity like Arion Fx?

Stan

Hey Stan;

Although I have the capability to produce 32bit plugins, there’s no demand for it anymore so it’s not really worth all the extra management work of dealing with two different versions.

As for your second question, Ultraflares can be driven by the image brightness (and hue) so that if you click and drag in the viewport, you’ll see the flare continuously adjusting itself according to the sampled pixel’s brightness (or hue). Pretty neat, actually.

Kind regards,
-Richard

Sounds interesting, I might have to take a look at that then  Ive been using the ones from videocopilot for some time now and love them. Is is possible to override the auto brightness if needed?

-dave

I think he meant 32bit imagery

Yes sorry I meant float 32 bit pixel brightness information.
Meaning if I have a image in 32 bit with a pixel information of 1 or 15 or 72 (sun) the flare should be completely different.
Does my question make sense now?

Stan

UltraFlares looks great. On a side note though, is there a chance we’ll get a 64bit version of DOF Pro?

Ahhh… gotcha. So many people have been referring to the 32/64bit issue in the past so I automatically assumed. Ultraflares can handle 8 bits/channel and 16 bits/channel imagery but not 32 yet.

As for the brightness, you can control it per object or per flare or via preview window sampling. So quite a few options there.

Have a play with the demo version. It does everything the full version does except actually apply the final effect.

-Richard

Well, DOF PRO is coming up very soon. I had been updating all the other plugins first but I’m almost at DOF PRO. So yes, there will certainly be a 64 bit version but it probably will come with a new update as well so that will take me a little bit of time.

-Richard

Thanks for your feedback.
I was looking for something like Arion Fx or optical flare that can drive the whole “flare” process automatically based on the whole image brightness. Basically the same way a real lens would react.

It’s hard to find plugs that support 32bit float data, but I’m guessing everything’s coming at some point.

In the same thought, I guess your plug for bloom doesn’t do 32bit float either?

Would be awesome to have a bloom/glare/flare plug that does 32 bit float through AFX as I can’t really find any that does that for the time being. Even Arion fx is only considering expanding to nuke only, but not soon. There is a market to grab

Cheers
Stan

Would love to see this generate glare from floating point images with values above 1.0. I would also love to see this as an OFX plugin for compositing programs.

Looks awesome

can this be made to work as an OFX plugin?

Looks amazing. If you release an OFX version i will buy it eyes closed xD
