Unhandled Exception src\globalummap.ccp.line: GloballllumMap::buildLightMap()(2.1)

Hi I tried to render a scene and Vray stops at the Light cache.

Vray message: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering frame Last marker is at .\src\globalummap.ccp.line: GloballllumMap::buildLightMap()(2.1)

I had previously been region rendering on a 3000x 2500 image. I dropped size down to 800x600 for a quick test, but did not turn off region render. Vray then started giving me the above message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am going to start working my way back through increment saves to see if problem goes away.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Derek

Did you use the region render button in the V-Ray VFB? Does it render if you turn this off?

Best regards,
Vlado

I used the region render in the larger image. 3000x2500
I then reduced the render size to 800x600, to do a quick test.
I forgot to turn of the region render button and hit render.
Vray adjusted the render size and then the crash occured.
I have to restart max. It freezes
Same thing happens again when I reopen file and try render again (region render is then off)

Sorry, yes it is the region render in the Vray vfb.
Doesnt render when off

In that case would be best if you can get me the scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what’s going on.

Best regards,
Vlado

Morning Vlado

I solved the problem, I just switched to the scanline renderer and then back to Vray, so Vray was set to all its defaults. It renders fine now.

Thanks

Derek

The same here, pretty often…

So when I turn off the VFB, it runs well and if I re turn O the VFB it’s another time bugged.
The only way to use the VFB with this scene, but it’s pretty often the case on our scene since we switched to the SP3, is to use a brute force instead of Light Cache in secondary bounces.

And it crashes the scene by the way.
Is there any solution to avoid this ?

Regards, Tanguy BODIVIT

It seems to be more like a DR issue; I am looking at a similar problem now.

Best regards,
Vlado

Thank you Vlado, but before you dive deeper in the code, here one of my co worker just said me he already got the bug in LOCAL rendering without using the DR… If it could help you

Tanguy

Yes, now if you can get me the scene, it will help even more

Best regards,
Vlado

Let me know the address you want I mail it to you or if you get a FTP.

Tanguy

Im also having this issue, is there a work around as yet?

You can email it to vlado@chaosgroup.com; if the scene is too big, we can also arrange ftp upload.

Best regards,
Vlado

Vlado

I have something similar, max crashes at:
“Last marker is at .\src\vrayrenderer.cpp, line 2289: Preparing direct light manager”.

Some sort of low memory issue? When I render high res max crashes, when I render low res its gone. If I turn off render elements it helps, but doesn’t fix things.

I’ve had similar before max 2010, deleting render elements helped then too, but didn’t fix the issue.

Just had the same unhandled exception as in the original post.

Was also rendering a large image, 3000x2000, used region render in de VFB.
Saved the file and closed max. Later opened the file, lowered resolution to 1000x667, tried to render, then it threw the exception. The region render button was still active, but couldn’t disable/or see it before rendering, since the VFB can’t be opened unless a first render is done.

When I first started a render at 3000x2000 and cancelled it as soon as VFB showed up, I could disable the region render, lower resolution and render fine again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to this forum and the kind people here I can render my scenes again. Had the same ‘UNHANDLED’ message. Just switch to scanline and then back to vray.
Thanks agian!

Ale

Same happened to me, remade a region, saved the file, closed max.
I reopened it later, changed camera and boom… If I stay in the same camera as when the file was openend it will do the ‘memorized’ region. but changing camera kills the process…

thanks for the help here, GREATLY appreciated

thanks vlado, i got the same trouble here… scanline back to vray. it works… it was doing that in the last 5 years sometines and i did nt do what to do. Sometimes i remove the render elements, reduce the pixels etc… thanks

I vlado,

I’ve the same problem today. This error happen only when I try to open the material editor: 3ds max crash with this message:

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (0,32)-(32,46)
Last marker is at ./src/globalillummap-cpp, line 1428: GlobalIllumMap::buildLightMap () [1]
etc…

So, in the Assign render, I switch the Material Editor option to mental ray Render, open again the material editor (no crash), then change to VRay 2.00.02, re-open the material editor and all works fine.

EDIT: the main PC works fine, but when I try to send and render the scene in our renderfarm, all node give me the same error, with different Render region coordinates, and, after some buckets, the nodes stop to render the scene.

warning: Render host PC01 (192.168.1.3) is not responding
warning: Render host PC01 (192.168.1.4) is not responding
warning: Render host PC01 (192.168.1.5) is not responding
warning: Render host PC01 (192.168.1.6) is not responding
etc…

I try the vray-to-scanline-to-vray Switch tips, but I’ve the same error. No render region usage.

(*) Next step is to save the file and the renderer setting (with the preset tool), close max, reopen and when I try to render in the main workstation. 3ds max crash.
(*) Next, I try the vray-to-scanline-to-vray and I re-create the VRay renderer setting by hand. Crash again.
(*) Next, I try the vray-to-scanline-to-vray and use the default VRay setting. all is ok, but when I try to recreate my renderer setting, max crash.
(*) So, I change one parameter at time, to found the problem. I found it! If I uncheck, the global switches, the Maps checkbox, 3ds max give me the error!
and this is repeatable. When I turn on the Maps tool, max crash or the node give me the error. Every time.
(*) So I turn off every bitmpap in all the VRayMaterial. Same problem.
(*) I assign one white shader for all mash, and all is ok.
(*) Next, I re-assign the shader. The problem is the VRayCarPaint! all models in the scene are white. when I assing the VRayCarPaint, in the node I’ve a crash
UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (0,32)-(32,46)

I try to assign to a new MEdit slot a new VRayCarPain shader, ma max crash
I re-create the same VRayCarPaint shader. Same error.

I merge all the scene in a new file, same problem!

Conclusion: I can’t render the scene :frowning:

I isolate the problem. Try to open this file and the material editor: max crash. Or render with your renderfarm: the node crash.
It’s just a simple chamfer box with 2 VRayCarPaint in the Material Editor: no light, no GI, very simple file
