One out of three times, after closing 3ds Max following the use of the Vantage “live-link”, the software refuses to restart properly and forces me to perform a reset. Are you also experiencing this issue?

If I understand correctly, it’s 3ds Max that breaks and can’t start again. If this is so, then it’s a problem in Max itself or V-Ray for Max.

Do you stop Live Link before closing Max and how? The link is truly closed if you press the live link toolbar button (it is blue while active and you click to toggle it off) and technically also if you press the stop button in V-Ray VFB. If you only close Vantage, the link is interrupted but it is not closed and V-Ray is trying to reconnect to Vantage. Maybe if V-Ray is in this state it triggers the bug you’re observing. I don’t think it was reported before.

Which versions of 3ds Max, Vantage and V-Ray are you using?

Oui, c’est bien 3ds Max qui plante et ne redémarre pas après avoir eu une liaison en “Live Link”!
Je suis sur 3dsMax 2027 et Vantage 3.3.1

This is the important question. We need some specific steps to reproduce the issue, otherwise we can’t do much.

Voici les étapes de mon flux de travail :

    1. Je crée une scène dans 3ds Max avec des matériaux, des éclairages et des caméras V-Ray.
    1. Je connecte cette scène en Live Link avec Vantage.
    1. Je continue de travailler dans 3ds Max et j’ajuste les objets, les matériaux, les éclairages et les caméras.
    1. J’effectue mes rendus dans Vantage.
    1. J’enregistre et je ferme Vantage.
    1. J’enregistre et je ferme 3ds Max.
    1. J’éteins complètement mon PC.
    1. J’allume mon PC.
    1. Je lance 3ds Max et, une fois sur deux ou trois, le logiciel plante (et m’oblige à effectuer une réinitialisation).

PS : Si je ne travaille pas avec Vantage, je ne rencontre jamais ce problème.

Hello @Antoine_SELLIER thank you for the steps, unfortunatelly so far we were not able to reproduce the crash like you describe it.

In that regard, can you please check two things:

  1. What settings you have in Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. Share a screenshot to see your current settings.

  2. When 3ds Max crashes for you, click Win button and type ‘reliability’ > open View reliability history > find the 3ds Max crash >right click and select View technical details. Share screenshot.

voila ce que j’ai réussi a retrouver car je suis obliger de faire un fin de tache sur 3dsMax car il tourne dans le vide.

@Antoine_SELLIER thank you for the screenshots.

A few quick things:

  1. The power screenshot is not the page we need - that one is the advanced power settings. Could you instead go to Control Panel > Power Options and, in the left column, click “Choose what the power buttons do”, then share a screenshot of that page? Here is an example:

  2. Please try using Restart instead of Shut down when you are done for the day, and let us know if 3ds Max still crashes. A Restart forces a full clean boot, so this helps us rule out a Windows power-saving behaviour.

  3. One thing worth noting is that the crashing module in your report (coreclr.dll) belongs to the .NET runtime that 3ds Max itself runs on, not to a Chaos product - so this may not originate on our side. If it continues, it would be worth collecting a crash dump and sending it to Autodesk support, as they can read exactly which component fails.

Try this, sometimes it fixes issues like that. Rename the folder containing 3ds Max settings: C:\Users\<YOURNAME>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\2027 - 64bit\ENU replace and you may also have to replace “ENU” with the language you’re using. By renaming the folder you are able to restore it if needed.

Bonjour, juste pour informer, que grâce a vous mon problème surement disparu car cela fait deux jours que je travail avec 3dsMax et Vantage sans ce problème de crach!

So did the power configuration fix it or did you remove the Max settings folder?

le problème est revenu aujoud’hui donc je teste de supprimé le dossier des paramètres de Max pour voir.
