The GTX 970 has 1664 Cuda Cores, the 980 has 2048. I assume you should choose between your workflow. And even if you need Cuda Cores, maybe spend some more and get 2 970 and a new PSU 
For my workflow, i hardly use RT, and therefor i would go for the 970.
