Hi, the help docs on arbitrary install feel a tad old. The “new” Autodesk setup with environment variable ADSK_APPLICATION_PLUGINS and package.xml isn’t mentioned.
Could someone shed a bit of light on the matter? What is the procedure to get it up and running from a network share when it comes to environment variables, folders and .ini-files? Are the limitations still the same?
I have tried to place the contents of C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins (the VRay3dsMax2023 folder) in a fileserver location like \\Server\Workgroup\ApplicationPlugins
And point the following environment variables to the following paths:
VRAY_MDL_PATH_3DSMAX2023= \\Server\Workgroup\ApplicationPlugins\VRay3dsMax2023\mdl (I copied the mdl-folder from C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max 2023 and placed it in the fileserver location as well… Not sure about that)
Not sure about all the other folders in C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3ds Max 2023 either…
I uninstall vray from my machine and launch 3ds max
I get it to launch and render and it seems to work.
The only problem (that I know of) is that I get a crash when I open a slate material editor and the material preview tries to render…
Hi, thanks for posting. Could you please open a ticket trough our support contact form. Please include a link to this thread in your e-mail so we can track your issue.
FYI, we logged an issue (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-13408 ) about the crash. It seems the preview .vrscene is not loaded correctly. The devs will investigate. You can work around it by turning on the “3ds Max material swatches” (Render Setup>Settings>System).
