Vray Distance tex world space option

Please forgive me if this request is utterly asinine or ignorant. I had hoped to be able to drive a standard displacement and or volume select modifier with the Vray Distance Tex map. It seems that with object space modifiers it is taking its distance from the origin of the scene as opposed to the pivot point of the selected object.

The example below shows the result of using a World Space Modifier to drive the displacement and is much closer to effect I was hoping to achieve. Unfortunately the World Space Modifiers are rather limited compared to their Object Space Counterparts.

If this effect was able to control volume select by proximity I imagine you could achieve some very cool Mograph like effects with Max and V-ray. Is this possible?

Thanks for your consideration,
Chad

Can’t do much about that unfortunately. When modifiers like the Displace modifier call the texture maps, they just pass the point in local object coordinates. VRayDistanceTex has no way to find out the actual world-space position.

Thanks Vlado,

Wasn’t exactly sure how difficult that might be to achieve. Been poking around a bit more and have been having tons of fun driving the hair and fur using the Vraydistancetex.

Not perfect but it’s the right idea!

Thanks again!
Chad

Hehe, cool stuff
