Im testing the new vRay NEXT (4) and … why is always not showing the vRay Dome by presing the sahding mode in MaYa ? (Pressing 5 in the keyboard)
I need to press 6 (Texturing Mode) in my keyboard to show the vRay Dome. This is not practical.
If you have a look into the light from arnold in MaYa - even if I have press 5, the light will always visible.
WHY I SUPPOSE TO HAVE THE vRAY DOME LIGHT SHOWING IN THE SHADING MODE (5 in the keyboard and not 6 “Texturing mode”)?
Answer:
If I have heavy textures (8K) will take long to load all the textures and the vRay Dome Light will take a lot of time to load too.
Even if I have a spherical .jpg loaded.
Having the vRay in the shading mode (5 in the keyboard) is not longer needed to load all the textures in my scene while I work in small computers. i.e. Laptop.
Arnold allows you to see the HDR image also in the shading mode (5 in the keyboard).
Another issue that Im facing at the moment.
The vRay Dome Light will not longer appear in my scene if I have long 8K textures.
So it is a lot of guessing work and doing test rendering to position objects.
Im using MaYa 2020 because I need to use and test vRay NEXT.
Im also having issues with viewport materials and domelights…basically broken. If you add reflection it instantly looks alike a mirror, if you turn off reflection, its just showing black, no diffuse. Also you can delete the domelight and nothing updates in viewport until you click the material or object.
Add a vray sky and it seems to work fine. This is latest vray and maya 2020.1. Nvidia 445.75
Would it be possible to let me know what is broken currently and what nodes arent supported for display in the viewport?
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve logged an improvement request for the VRayDomeLight to be shown in the viewport when in Shading mode (internal bug-tracker id: VMAYA-9538 ). Otherwise, 8k textures seem to be displayed fine from what I tested. Maybe show an example?
@francomanko Both issues described seem to work fine. Could you share an example? Also, try updating to the latest V-Ray for Maya (update 2.2) build and see if it’s still reproducible.
I will send you a couple of pictures or videos so you can have a look on it.
Thank you in advance and looking forward to work together for a better development.
