Vray Missing After Crash? Help!

V-Ray V-Ray for 3ds Max Issues

This is happening all over the place for my users:

If Max crashes (or sometimes randomly) the next time Max is opened Vray is completely missing. Max complains about missing Vray dll’s. Vray at this point needs to be re-installed.

Any ideas whats causing this and any better ways to fix it rather than re-install?

i have this happen from time to time.

i don’t know where to fix it with the max9 user profile option turned on, meaning i don’t know where the plugin path information is stored.

…but if you have reverted your max9 user profile option back the pre 9 way, you should be able to modify the plugin.ini file to correctly have it locate vray. the plugin.ini file is stored in the max root directory.

make sure these line is on your plugin.ini file, and make sure they are listed after the standard plugin line…

VRray=E:\applications\3dsMax9\plugins\vrayplugins
V-Ray additional plug-ins=E:\applications\3dsMax9\plugins\vrayplugins

Everything appears to be in order. I have my “installsettings.ini” set to userprofile=0 and both lines appear in my plugins.ini file

Now even after reinstall I get a worse error the “x.dll failed to initialize”..

This is VERY weird!

In the file plugin.ini in the root folder of 3ds Max, make sure that the line about additional v-ray plugins is the last one.
