I changed one machine from xp64 to win7, now windows like vrayframebuffer, vray log window react terribly slow. It needs seconds when trying to set active and move them around, even when its just a 2600x1200px still. Hardware still the same (intel i7-2600, 16gb, nvidia gtx460) but nitrous with dual full-hd screens of course. does my gpu now need an win7-upgrade?
I had the same experience when I switched over from XP64 and Max 2010, everything slowed down even rendering and Windows used a Gig more ram than it used to. IDK why but Win 7 has been a big let down for me I wish I could go back to the good old XP days.
If you are using 3ds Max 2012, this is a known issue that we have to resolve with Autodesk. You can make things better by turning off the Nitrous progressive refinement, or turning off the Windows Aero theme. Some users claim that turning off the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager service also fixes the problem, but I have not tested this and I would not recommend it.
hmmmm, we also tried the oldstyle winxp desktop style, no aero, no transparency, no rounded windows … still needs ages to activate the vrayframebuffer. Will try the progressive refinement and desktop window manager service.
there not something like “minimum ram on graphics card”? of course it happens also with small renderings and no additional renderlayers…

I don’t think it’s a graphics card problem unless it’s Nvidia’s drivers because I have a Quadro 6000 and performance isn’t any better than a Quadro 3200.
Vlado - deactivating progressive refinement seems to help to improve resposiveness of windows (sometimes it still needs 5 sec. to set the vray framebuffer “active”) thanks a lot!
devin - we changed from cheap gtx460 with 786mb ram to also cheap gtx 560 with 2 gig ram - i don´t know weather it was just uninstalling the old and installing a new detonator driver, but i also have the feeling of more graphics card ram helps with dual full hd screens and big renderings with several layers …
I’ve got the same issue and I solve it reverting back to Direct3D. Nitrous seems to slow down vray even after finishing a rendering and closing render frame window.
This is on purpose; there was a particular issue where the 3ds Max window would stubbornly insist on moving in front of the V-Ray VFB; if this happened, there was no way for the user to bring the V-Ray VFB to the front again (other than moving the 3ds Max window itself, which was very inconvenient).
