VRayMtl Include/Exclude Lists

It would be a huge improvement if VRay materials had object include/exclude lists for reflections and refractions.

Like Brazil?

This would be really a nice addition!
Another similar cool feature would be if the vray physical camera had include/exclude lists for objects that are seen by the camera.
Useful in some scenes where objects that work nicely from one camera angle produce problems from another one for whatever reason.

That would be a useful feature - say the scene looks best when the camera is positioned inside a tree but you need to see that tree in another shot. Saves you from remembering to turn it back on. Obviously this is not a “must have” thing but it could come in handy now and again.

Mayyyyyybeeee.

I find this feature really important.

Example:
I had an object sitting in a 3D Camera Projected HDR environment. I needed the reflection of the environment on the object in a reflection on the floor. So I needed the floor to reflect the object but not the environment but still see the reflection of the environment in the object’s reflections.

Floor → Object → 3D Environment

Floor

Ease of use functionality is Always the stuff that ‘earns’ the money. (IMHO)

Just found another really important use case:

Say you have a product being lit by large area lights and using the area lights as reflection cards as well.

We almost always need to render a ground reflection pass of the product but we don’t want our lighting rig in the floor reflection, just the product.

Similarly sometimes you want a reflector card on one panel or component but not on another for aesthetic or sampling reasons. Imagine you want a little reflector card just kicking up a nice edge on a car’s wheel, but you don’t want its reflection in the body paneling and you definitely don’t want a funky little custom shaped reflector card invisible to camera reflecting in the floor.

Oh yea, I remember spending MANY hours trying to get Mental ray to do just that a couple of years ago. :frowning:
Was much easier to acheive in VRay as I recall??

Any idea whether or not this kind of thing is planned yet?

From Vlado… "I know about this, and it will be implemented at some point. "

good news!
stefan

Any update on when this might be implemented? The problem just arose on a project I’m working on

oh I dream of it every day… there are so many situations I would love to have an option like this!
new updates for vray are coming so the chance to get an option like that is big

thanks

Hey,

Any news on this feature yet?

I’d also love to see this implemented, would save a huge amount of time spent on setting up passes / comps / etc

Seems like such a simple thing too,

Thanks,

It is not that simple, but you are right that it’s not that difficult either and it will be implemented. I’m just afraid it will open a can of worms

Best regards,
Vlado

Unleash the Kraken… errr worms!

This is still a huge sticking point for wider Vray adoption for us.

Bringing this back up, has anything happened regarding this?

I’m really needing this right now, as I want the product to be reflected in the ground plane, while the lights should reflect only in the product, not the ground.

There is nothing that you can use yet, unfortunately.

Best regards,
Vlado

Sorry for adding to an old thread, but I also think it is an extremely important feature. I’m using this in Brazil on almost every shot where reflection cards are needed and find it a huge step back to set up studio shots in Vray (no offense!).
