vrmesh vertex color info?? urgent!

Hi vlado, i have a probl with vertex color (i think)

i have an obj with vertex color set and i have converted to vrmesh (with vertex color export check), when i import proxy into maya i dont see the vertex color info?

how can i see it? and where is that info located?

What exactly are you trying to do with the vertex colors? In Maya, you can use VRayVertexColors texture. Set the type to “Set name” and enter the set name bellow.

hi ivanov, i know that, i do have vertex color in maya with regular mesh, but when i export that mesh as a proxy (with vertex color export option) and when i import that vrmesh into maya i dont have any vertex info any more? so how to get back the vertex color info from vrmesh?

This works fine for me on a simple test; can you get me more specific reproduction steps?

ok here is how i did it…
1. create sphere
2. add color-create empty color set
3. paint vertex color
4. create vraymtl & VRayVertexColors
5. connect VRayVertexColors-> vraymtl color & apply to sphere
6. connect sphere mesh.color set 0 → VRayVertexColors.color set
7. (render test) just to make sure that everything is ok
8. export sphere as vray proxy with export color vertex option ON
9. New scene
10. import proxy
and what now?

solution is to turn on the Set Index and set to 1

sorry for trouble, but i have another question according to this :), as u all may already saw im using naiad, and i was converting emp files to vrmesh, but i wasnt able to transfer the point color from bgeo → vrmesh with ply2vrmesh converter

so could u plz vlado if u have time check this, i could send u a sample bgeo obj for test

Apply the VRayMtl material to the proxy; assign a VRayVertexColors texture to the slot you want, set the “type” to “Set Name” and in the text field below type the name of your color set (by default “colorSet” without the quotes). That’s all.

I don’t think we do the colors right now from .bgeo files… if you have some examples, please send it over and we’ll try to figure out a way to transfer them.

The color set support should be present in the next nightly build.
Please test it and report if there are any problems with it.

I’ve added support for both .geo and .bgeo files.

as i said before i need a lots of info from naiad emp mesh that is transfer to bgeo->vrmesh but im loosing those infos in conversion process…

Great news!

For the moment we convert all the vector and 3-float vertex attributes from the .geo/.bgeo file to color sets, so if the information that you need is stored in such channels, it will automatically come through.

1st i just want to let u know that bgeo works but there is a small, dont wanna say, bug but few things are missing…

i have a bgeo with (in this moment) 4 channels, but when i convert bgeo->vrmesh i can see only 1 channel (vrmesh index 0), so i had to export 4 bgeo object and convert every single one into vrmesh so i could have all 3 (4th channel is speed, but its missing?)

Bazuka, the speed is a single float attribute, currently we export only vector and float3 attributes.

ok, what about all channels inside vrmesh? the bgeo mesh i uploaded has all 4 channels inside, but like i said ply2vrmesh converter is taking only the 1st channel from bgeo, he does reads all channels but stores only 1

OK, This was a bug and it should be fixed in the next nightly build.
Please test it and report if there are any problems and I’m sorry for wasting your time.

BTW, I’ve improved the -info command line switch and now it prints information about the uv/color set channels in the vrmesh files.
This information can be useful, when using the VRayVertexColors texture in Maya.

if u think that some of my ideas r stupid or so just let me know, but as u already know my whole pipeline is based on vray and with ideas i have im trying to “improve” vray as much as i can from this side of the view.
