will vray 1.5 faster than vray 1.09 because all of these betas are drastically more slower than the great vray 1.09
thats why if nothing changes in future releases i am going back to 1.09…
1.45 is slower then 1.09 when you use the same settings…
infact… when you load 1.09 scene in 1.45 they render slower…
but when you make the settings new… and materials like 1.45
it is faster…

I use 1.09 for production and have been testing 1.46.10. I’ve found 1.46 to be significantly faster as well. I loaded a scene created in 1.09, tweaked the settings as suggested in other posts and it works great. The lighting looked the same and the GI IR map/QM was faster to. I use VIZ 4 and haven’t tested DR yet.

Could you point to any major threads that talk about the recommended tweaks? I’ve scanned the board and can’t seem to bring them up, but it’s not something easy to narrow down in a search. I’ll keep looking.
Thanks!
Shaun
how well does DR work in 1.09?
how well does DR work in 1.09?
UH yea ok

I’ve found you can reduce the samples in your glossies by 25% to 50% and get similar quality. The other setting that makes a big difference is the QMC sampler. I lowered it to 8. That’s really all there is. I didn’t change the GI settings much. For AA I use the adaptive subdivision, I can’t seem to get the adaptive QMC to work good.
I don’t recall the thread off hand mabye someone else can.
DR works great in 1.09 (for me).

come on, i try to change what you said, i tewek and retewek, and vray still not faster like the real vray (1.09)

What part is slower for you GI calc or rendering? Are you doing interiors? I do frestanding furniture without environments with glossy reflections, Vray lights and low GI settings. What is your scene like?
What is everyone elses experience?

scene with nothing a teapot and a box take much more time in render than 1.09, everithing is slow
What version of Max are you in? I wonderif that makes a difference. I use VIZ 4.
3ds max 7
If you use the default settings, 1.46 will likely be slower than 1.09 - it traces more rays by default. This was made to ensure that you can get a good image with only few parameter tweaks. On average, the default settings of 1.46 trace about twice as many GI rays than the default settings in 1.09. However, you can always tweak things to get a similar performance. If you have any doubts - post a scene and we’ll discuss it here.

thats the problem vlado, there is no scene, ist a completli new scene, i create a box and a teapot only, whit out gi, only aa and its terrible more slower than the amaizing vray 1.09
Post your teapot-box scene then. Include your rendertimes and images from both 1.09 and 1.46. Then we can look at how we can speed 1.46.xx up to be faster than 1.09 ![]()

Hi there,
If it produces more rays now by default, why not decreasing
the settings of the renderpresets by default to a speed similar
to 1.09. It should be splotchfree as well.
1.09 was splotchfree and fast by default. 'It would be a step back if people have to decrease and tweak their rendersettings now before they get
similar results as with 1.09.
And I think “it produces more rays now” is a very bad argument
if there was never a need for more rays. Every standard preset
did it´s job splotchfree.. Even the animation presets worked like expected
out of the box. For my taste it makes more sence if the user increases
his settings instead of decreasing it (having very long rendertimes by default).
Maybe i missed something but so far I have not seen any advantages
from this. Actually SSS with low settings produces nicer results
now but I don´t see a big difference if I use 1.4 with low settings
or 1.09 with higher settings. The final result and the rendertimes are nearly the same.
In wich situation can i expect 1.4 to perform better than
1.09 ?
So where is the major advantage of this change ?
(maybe pre-thought compatibility with other packages ? ![]()
okok very bad joke ![]()
Vlado could you please tell us in a simple way which exect parameters we should tweak in order to reduce the GI rays by half ?[/quote]
