Stunning images! Nice to see some nature based work on the forum, and a great advert for onyx.
What sort of timescale have you spent on each image?

great renders..almost needles to say..very good and diffrent from what we are uses to see in here.
I like onyx too, renders fast and you have a great amount of control inside max. The only thing i have against them is the leaves. I think it shows in your renders too ( just a little ). They always end up 'unaturally' green even when used with vertex colors to simulate light scattering. I havent had succes with texturing them either. I still use them though as i think its the best solution comparing quality / render times.

I got a little lazy with the leaves and didn't actually put in a texture or opacity map for them. So basically they are just a green material right now. If I go back and rerender, I would put in some leave textures and opacity maps.Josh Presseisen

what can i say. its definately awsome work. would love to know what you did about your leaves to get them to look like that.
ive always wanted to do a forest scene again ever since i had done this one for university using raymax. took 2 hours per frame for a 6 second anim. this was done about hmmm. 7 years ago i think.

onyx leaves
onyx treestorm leaves work really well if you turn on UV mapping for them, the leaf maps dont have to be crash hot as the leaves are geometry shaped.
They sure are great renders though. Been waiting to try a scene full of trees now weve got proxies working properly.
i dont like onyx trees branch intersections and there is not enough leaf variety. Plus they need to make a plant/flower version, making flowers and specific varietals sucks big time.

I have broadleaf and conifer, but not Tree Storm. Do I need TS to get the geometry leaves?sigpic

Yeah - that's what I've been doing too. Just haven't tried a geometry leaf. I've been using the rectangle leaves (work fine in the distance), and I see it will do mapped leaves with opacity, but I haven't tried that (sounds like looooong render times).sigpic
