  • light cache vrs quasi

    Hello guys
    This is wip which i'm working on (max 7 + vray 1.46.15)
    first image i used
    first bounce : irr map , hsph = 50 , iterp = 20 , preset medium.
    second bounce : light cache , 1500 subd.
    the pic rendered with no pre calc sollution.
    render time was around 2.5 hrs

    second image
    first bounce : irr map , hsph=25,iterp = 20 , preset medium.
    second bounce : quasi on default settings.
    for this pic i pre calulate sollution on half of the size and then renderd using the saved irr map.
    render time include sollution was 40 min.

    so from my tests i think irr map + quasi is faster and smoother.
    what do you think?
    How can i reduce the noise on the right wall?

          That is not for the noise problem but,
          was your 'check sample visibility' option on?

                  Mmmm thats pretty low. Try cranking them up to 20 and see how it looks.

                  **Note: Just do a render region around the area of the noisy walls, no need to render the rest of the scene just to test out that small area.

                      Are you looking for speed or quality??

                      For speed i would probabaly go LC/QMC, for quality i would go QMC/LC.
                      For inbetween (i.e. good speed/good quality) probably IR/LC.

                        when i use ir/lc i've used 1500 subdv on lc and its still isn't enough
                        how many should i go?
                        btw , from what i've seen in those pics is that ir/quasi is faster and better quality.
                        how can i make them better?

                          Mmmmm 1500 is alot for LC, you should have a fairly clean scene.
                          What other settings are you using for LC?

                          I would suggest you quickly try the following and see if it makes much of a difference.

                          subdivs = 1000
                          sample size (leave at default) = 0.02
                          scale = screen
                          store direct light = unticked
                          show calc phase = ticked
                          Pre filter = ticked @ 50
                          Filter = Fixed
                          Filter size (detault) = 0.04

                          This is obviously simple settings and could definitly be find tuned, but i just want to see how your render looks with these settings and your vray lights @ 20 subdivs.

                            thanks DaForce
                            will try that
                            what about ir settings?
                            mine is hph = 50
                            interp = 40
                            and medium prest on (-3,-1).
                            one more question , should i do a pre calculate soluttion on half of the size and save ir map or just render it on the final size?

                              np

                              Well those IR settings should be ok. See how you go after changing the other stuff.

                              Ideally render it at the final size to get best quality but at an extended time.

                              I reckon just try LC/QMC for a test and see how it turns out. Use the LC settings i posted above but lower the LC subs to 500-600, and just leave the QMC settings at default. This should give a pretty fast render, with reasonable quality.
