  • implicit surfaces - again

    Hi,

Something rather technical than artistic I rendered out a small animation with my implicit surfaces.
    http://www.dimo3d.info/implicitelectric.wmv

I suppose this is only interesting for those who followed the thread about implicit surfaces:
    http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=11887

I just wanted to show that the flickering really is reduced a lot now. Even with a 3d texure with very fine thin details like electric.dlt. The rendertimes with antialiasing (adaptive -1 2) and precalculated IRMap(with secondary bounces) were about 60 sec on a dual xeon.
The new bottleneck is the memory it takes to store my cache. If you try something more complicated than a single sphere it resets you to the desktop. But I have now a bit more time to work further on this.

    Best Regards,

    Dieter

That's really impressive stuff - No doubt yourself and vlado have been in contact about this stuff but it seems like a really smart way of terrain modelling and rendering - great work.

i notice a red tinge to the left and a dark tinge to the right. is that just the video compression?

No, I'm using the built I sent around.
But I have resumed the work on it now.

              Best Regards,

                  Dimo,

Can the 3d texture be animated?

jumping in here as Dieter is home already, and am working in at the same company

                    Great Job Dieter!

@dellis : yes it can and it can be as complex as you wish (just stick all those 3d maps into the submaterials and combine and animate them as you wish)

....yeah...if you need anyone else to test this...i'm already doing backflips over here to get your attention. I played with Peter Watje plugin and had a great time of it.

Is yours going to be a commercial plugin?

                              Ok,

here's the scene for the video above. The Calculation of the IR Map takes quite a while. but you can prerender it as you would for flythroughs. (Every 10th frame, etc).I have the 3GB switch enabled on my machine. If you don't have that there's a chance that you will get an exception.
