beautiful image. i was just coming back today to post, and ask if the glow was rendered. it really sets the image off.

        excellent info!!!

To help speed up renders with opactiy maps, set the bitmap blur (of the opacity map) to 0.01 and turn filtering off. that will make it ALOT faster.

Do you have some sort of displacement going on on those shoes? The wireframe itself seems really simple, but i see a lot of wrinkles in the shot where you're showing the textures and materials.

DaForce - Yep, I turned down the blur & turned off the filtering, it did speed everything up (i.e: it actually rendered!), but it was still insanely slow.

pailhead - Ah yes, the wrinkles are modelled, but in an edit poly modifier on top of a turbosmooth, both of which were turned off for the wireframe render.

            Thanks again for your comments!

Thanks for all the replies you've given, they are really insightful!

I'm really curious to know why you've done it this way. Was it easier for you to fit the shape of the shoe over the shape of the foot by keeping a simple mesh, and then you added detail afterwards? Do you have another smooth modifier on top of all of it, did you alter the original topology after the first smooth?
